2-10. Winners in R5 [$6.90] and R7 [$4.50]. After a slow start - with the winners of the first four being horses not even in our mix - we ended the day with some reasonable gimmicks using the picks: R5 AC x 31.00; R6 CBAD x 23.80 t 60.00 s 87.00; R7 A-Bc-Cd x 16.00 t 113.50; R8 BEx x106.50; R10 DBA x 100.00 t 350.30.

21,168 reported attendance. It wasmostly sunny - somewhat warm, maybe even a little muggy. After the races the weather continued to be comfortable and summer-like but by perhaps 9 or 10pm the area was hit by monsoon-like rain. That continued overnight.

Overnight rains continued into the morning - causing the G1 NY Turfwriters steeplechase to be postponed until Monday. All other turf races moved to the main track.

FIRST RACE - G1 $150K NY Turf Writers
Demonstrative...Won this race in 2012. Flopped in this race last year - with some trouble. Could be set to go well off of the nice try in the G1 Smithwick.
Sheppard entry...In Sheppard we trust. Both halves will need to step it up. Barnstorming Ran well on this track last year - but, oooofff!, that last race was nothing to write home about. Likewise Italian Wedding won thisrace last year - but needs to rebound from the latest try.
Makari...Nice win in G1 Smithwick in US debut - but picks up eight pounds going 5/16 further. We'llsee...
All Together.

Morning Star...Potent trainer doing just OK in what we believe is his first Saratoga foray - but this guy seems perhaps a little bit better than these and is interesting on the turf-to-dirt route-to-sprint angle.
Tiz May West...The one to beat if able to repeat the carer debut effort -- but last wasn't nearly as good. Step up not out of the question however with the class relief.
Gem City Gal...Also likely to be heard from on the drop.
Ocean Boulevard.

Bryce Bryce Baby...Went back and forth on the top two before tepidly settling here on the two sprints to route angle.
Blue Shark...Solid try last time - but is he better on turf?
Vagarious...Last was best number yet.
Sea Raven.
Jacob's Here.

Wine Burglar...First off the claim for Rudy. Irad rides.
Funky Munky Fever...Beyers fit with these.
Bovca Babe...Tested here off of the eye-popping maiden win.
Lonely Teardrops.
On dirt: Island Candy, Boca Babe, Legally Bay, Funky Munky fever.

Partisan Politics...AE list. Owner and trainer doing it well at the meet and this one looks primed off the debut.
Overspending...Pletcher/Repole runner also is set up to go well in second start.
Sashay...And another that got some good first-out education.
On dirt: Same, plus Clothes Fall Off, Diannestillworks.

SIXTH RACE - $100K Union Ave
Risky Rachel...Likes this track and seemed to rebound to good form last time.
Sunny Desert...Layoff is a concern but bullet work indicates readiness.
Vicki's Dancer...Hmmm... Turf to dirt?
Uncle southern.

Dragonberry...Pletcher. Castellano. Near-miss last time. Seems logical.
Guilty Verdict...Last was best yet and might have her set to go well here.
Smart Ashley...Long time 'loser' but typically in the hunt.
MB and Tee.

First Whippoorwill...Class drop and Irad offer appeal.
Holiday Drama...Needs to rebound to starts two and three back - but looks capable with the return to claiming ranks.
Bargaining Table...Also dropping.
Dance With Gio.
On dirt: Rhrythm Queen, Ah Gaga, First Whippoorwill, Bargaining Table.

Subtle...Disappointed as fave last time but we'll give her another chance.
White Sangria...Bona fide turf sprinter's numbers are going the wrong way - but might benefit from the last, which was off a layoff.
Neck of the Moon...Hmmm - needs to rebound to 2013 form. Seasonal debut was a regression. Two plus months off since -- again, hmmm...
Ave's Halo.
Desert Bliss.
On dirt: My Jopia, Lumineuse, Your Time Is Up, White Sangria.

Quarla...If she does come back on the quick turnaround - with the class drop - for these connections, she merits attention.
Late Night Artist...Wake-up with the class relief?
Beauty Surprise...Number fired last time fits here - with the move down the claiming ladder.
Winner's Legacy.
More Everything.
On dirt: Same, plus More Everything, Untiltherewasyou.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
