Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A mixed bag with three winners on top in seven races (Aqueduct, $4.10; Pimlico, $4.80; Fair Grounds, $3.80). Two of those winners also topped cold exactas (Aqueduct, $12.60/$2; Fair Grounds, $25.80/$2).

Otherwise we wound up searching for value most of the afternoon. We did collect some gimmicks but not enough to move us into the black. We might have been helped a little if our fourth pick had gotten up to complete the tri at Pimlico. We did collect on the tri box there but with odds for the top three finishers at 7-5, 2-1, and 2-1. The 2-1 show horse just grabbed that spot by a head over our fourth pick at 19-1 -- have to figure that price would have juiced up the tri at least a little and that would have helped the bottom line.

WAGERED: $260.00
COLLECTED: $106.50

Turf wagers are turf only

Aqueduct: Exogenous $60K

Our Rite of Spring 1-1
Strategy 5-2
Take Me There 12-1

Coco's for Real scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Our Rite of Spring.
Collected $17.00 on the WP (4.10, 2.70).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $12.60 on the ex box ($12.60/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $6.30 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5.

Our Rite of Spring...Seems to be getting the hang of it and ran away and hid from NW1 field last time. That speed will suit her well over the inner.
Strategy...Regally bred filly from McGaughey/Phipps has license to take this but has yet to show domination that the breeding promises.
Dreamadreamforme...Is typically in the hunt.
Coco's for Real.

Aqueduct: Garland of Roses H'cp $75K

Travelator 8-1
Sensibly Chic 3-1
Forest Music 5-2

Ebony Breeze scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Cologny.
Ran 6th at 6-5.
...$5 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-6.

Cologny...Speedy filly has done well on this track before and fits at this minor stakes level.
Ebony Breeze...Well traveled Mott trainee is a graded stakes winner and looks like the one to beat.
Forest Music...Still has yet to live up to the promise of that debut effort last year -- but last says she's in good form.
Sensibly Chic.

Pimlico: Geisha H'cp $100K

Silmaril 7-5
Pour It On 2-1
Chrusciki 2-1

Wager: $5 WP on Silmaril.
Collected $19.00 on the WP (4.80, 2.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $5.60 on the ex box ($11.20/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $13.10 on the tri box ($26.20/$2).

Silmaril...We put her on top last time in that G3 stake. She wasn't badly beaten -- but now comes back against state-breds. Fits.
Chrusciki...Likes the track and might be tough if she returns to early-speed style.
Smith entry...Both Pour It On and True Sensation look capable of competing here.
Blind Canyon.

Calder: Pete Axthelm $100K

Wire Bound 11-1
Caballero Negro 3-1
More Bourb 21-1

Old Forester scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Old Forester, sub next if scratch.
Ran 7th at 8-1.
...$2 exacta box top two, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-7.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-6-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-6-7-8.

Old Forester...Mott 3YO has seemed stakes-meant since stepping onto the grass in July. Best race yet was a turf sprint at Belmont. Must get in off of AE list to compete here.
Dashboard Drummer...Stakes tested and has been showing nice, improving form since trying turf.
Wire Bound...Closing style won't be helped by the cutback -- but this sprint trip is two turns on this track so that might help the cause.
Quackers Appeal.
Grand Heritage.

Fair Grounds: La Champs Day Turf $100K

Mr Sulu 4-5
Little Happy 8-1
Spruce's Prince 16-1

Screen Idol scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Screen Idol.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $12.90 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-7.

Screen Idol...Took care of state-bred turfers in a similar event last time, why not right back?
Mr Sulu...Has looked very good when asked to face La-breds.
Little Happy...Has closed in last couple but might be interesting if early speed from prior starts is flashed.
Bebe Garcon.

Fair Grounds: La Champs Day Classic $150K

Witt Ante 8-1
Screen Idol 6-1
Spritely Walker 7-5

Wager: $5 WP on Spritely Walker.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-7.

Spritely Walker...Won this race last year -- but pick here is iffy on the layoff. If not for the trainer we'd probably look elsewhere.
Prince Slew...Ran poorly last year in Delta Downs stake then came back to run second in this race at 14-1. Coming into this off of poor effort in same Delta stake, might add value to gimmicks again.
Witt Ante...Always pretty solid in these state-bred events.
Meteor Impact.

Hollywood: Native Diver H'cp G3 $100K

Truly a Judge 6-1
Dynever 1-1
Calkins Road 31-1

Wager: $5 WP on Supah Blitz.
Ran 5th at 3-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected 20.00on the ex box ($40.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-6.

Supah Blitz...Hard to fault present good form.
Dynever...Best race was last trip to SoCal -- but that was first of season and he has yet to re-visit the winner's circle. This will be easier than the BC Classic though.
Congrats...Capable on best.
Truly a Judge.
