Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Yet another week where the bright spot was our picks on top. Two winners in six races (Aqueduct, 9.90; Hollywood, 8.60). A decent profit there and in our continuing Coast-to-coast season total since coming back from our Saratoga hiatus we've picked 36 winners on top in 101 races. A $2 win-bet on each top pick would have cost $202.00 and to this point would have returned $205.40. So we've moved into the black and that train keeps chugging along.

Otherwise, maybe we should limit our plays to the win-column! It was kind of an uninspiring card on Saturday and we tinkered with our plays because of some short plays. A couple of scratches limited our action even more. And we struggled all day.

We left second-place finisher Literacy out of our mix in the Long Island H'cp and even upon further review we still liked ours better. Can't be quite as confident about the other Aqueduct stake -- in the Turnback the Alarm we also missed the place horse. This time however Roar Emotion was among those we were using to whittle down to our final selections. Unfortunately we left her out -- we had the winner and 11-1 Fast Cookie, the show horse, in our mix, so we missed out on a $449.50/$2 tri. Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you...

At Churchill, in the Pocahantas, after scratched we were left with only three and two of ours ran 1-2 -- while our top pick Burnish ran fourth. Unfortunately that one got off to a poor start, was rushed up into contention on the backside and, as is often the case in those situations, faded late. The Iroquois was another race where we missed the place-horse. Again however, even on further review we liked ours better.

Overall, just one of those days...

Arvada...Frankel trainee has shown nice improvement in each start since arriving stateside. Won G3 at Saratoga last time and the layoff is a concern -- but trainer is OK in that department.
Eleusis/Noble Stella entry...Eleusis preferred. Five wins in six lifetimes starts in France. Euro shippers always dangerous.
Primetimevalentine...Can add some value in here in third start off layoff.
Savedbythelight.

Personal Legend...So much speed in this race that we're shopping for a closer and this gal fits the profile. Has been turfing but also has shown some ability in limited dirt tries.
Cloakof Vagueness...Also has the ability to sit off the early pace and make a late run.
Capeside Lady...Another Pletcher 3YO monster. Faces older for first time but might be the fastest of the fast.
Fast Cookie.

Greater Good...Closed a city block to win Turfway stake and that can either indicate a superior horse -- or a bad field. We'll know more today.
Highgrove...Big win last time might have been aided by the mud, but still has plenty of upside potential.
Straight Line...Appreciated the one-turn mile at Arlington two back.
Chief Commander.

Frisky Spider...Should fit with this bunch.
Choose.
