Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Hmmm, kind of a frustrating day. Four winners on top in nine races (Belmont, $5.70, $7.50; Ky Downs, $6.40; Fairplex, $5.20). So we pulled in a decent 38% ROI in the win-only category.

Plus, some of the gimmick plays were spot-on. In the Kentucky Cup Mile ours were a perfect 1-2-3-4 for a cold superfecta. And our top four also boxed for a super at Monmouth.

The frustration was that for most of the rest of the program we were having trouble completing the exacta -- and with our plays, that's leaves us out in the cold! We had winners on top but missed both exactas at Belmont. That included a 1-3-4 finish in the Cole, which was later replayed to our chagrin as we went 1-3-4 in the Pomona Derby at Fairplex.

Like last week, a little more luck and we could have been in much better shape bankroll-wise.

WAGERED: $368.00
COLLECTED: $234.75

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: AT Cole H'cp $100K

Provincetown 9-5
Certifiably Crazy 18-1
Irish Colonial 5-2

Golden Commander ran 7th.

Wager: $5 WP on Golden Commander.
Collected $23.00 on the WP (5.70, 3.50).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1(7)-3-4-5.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-5.

Provincetown/Golden Commander entry...Golden Commander preferred. Really seems to be an improved horse this summer. Provincetown not as strong but is trained by Biancone who is red-hot since Saratoga.
Irish Colonial...Been in the hunt the last few, just not able to get there first. Wouldn't be surprised if Johnny V moves him forward.
Foreverness...Good improving form in two starts since layoff.
World of Wonder.

Belmont: Noble Damsel H'cp G3 $150K

Ocean Drive 5-2
High Court 21-1
Hour of Justice 5-2

Wager: $5 WP on Ocean Drive.
Collected $30.75 on the WP.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-7-8.

Ocean Drive...Pletcher trainee comes into this in good stakes-winning form.
Dedication...This one was on the way to the breeding shed after her win in a Gulfstream stake in March. Obviously those plans changed and she's tacked on some nice performances since, including a close-up second against the boys in the G3 Jaipur. Would rate higher but off since June.
Hour of Justice...Coming out of three straight wins on Woodbine turf -- but there have been some very fast races on that course this season, we want to see this gal run over another course before we can back her on top with confidence.
Personal Legend.

Monmouth: Without Feathers $60K

Grand Prayer 5-2
Emerald Earrings 5-2
From Away 5-1

Forty Moves scratched.
A Lulu Ofa Menifee ran 4th completing the $124.00/$2 super.

Wager: $5 WP on Emerald Earrings.
Collected $8.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $26.20 on the ex box ($26.30/$2).
...$1 tri key Emerald Earrings over next three.
Ran 2/1-3-4.
...$1 tri key Forty Moves over other three.
Collected $52.60 on the tri key ($105.20/$2).

Emerald Earrings...As stated above, it's hard to gauge runners coming off of the Woodbine turf course -- but the bullet 9/22 workout for this one over this course seems to indicate she'll be OK.
Hennig entry...Forty Moves is preferred but both (Grand Prayer) are sprinters and speed was holding on Friday.
A Lulu Ofa Menifee...Dropping on off of some graded stakes tries.
From Away.

Kentucky Downs: Ky Cup Turf Dash $100K

Battle Won 7-5
Draw Fire 6-1
Abderian 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Draw Fire.
Collected $12.50 on the WP (xxx, 5.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-4-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-4-5-6.

Draw Fire...Mott trainee has been running mostly on dirt. Two turf sprints demonstrate the surface will not be a problem. Came back from layoff at Saratoga last time and ran into a buzzsaw in Midas Eyes.
Mighty Beau...Off since July but trainer is OK in that area. Should be in the mix early.
Top Commander...Also has early speed and could be at an advantage leaving from the rail as the start for this trip is almost on the turn.
Founding Chairman.

Kentucky Downs: Ky Cup Mile $100K

Missme 2-1
Gretchen's Star 8-5
Banned In Boston 2-1

King of Speed ran 4th at 20-1 completing the $100.20/$2 super

Collected $15.20 on the tri key ($30.40/$2).
...$1 tri key Gretchen's Star over other three.
Ran 2/1-3-4.

Missme...Having a pretty good summer in the midwest. Should be rolling late.
Gretchen's Star...Likes the trip and just missed in this race last year.
Banned in Boston...Might try to steal it on the front end.
King of Speed.

Sand Springs 4-1
Wildwood Royal 10-1
Omeya 8-1

Wager: $5 WP on May Gator.
Ran 4th at 6-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-9.

May Gator....Hard to fault her present form.
Omeya...Sheppard/Augustin runner could add some value here.
Sand Springs...Might blow these away if able to sneak away early.
Academic Angel.

Sabiango 6-5
Rochester 2-1
Gottabeachboy 57-1

...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Scratched.

Rochester...Going for a three-peat in this event and comes into the race off of a decent fourth in G1 Sword Dancer.
Sharbayan...Could be ready to pop in third start of layoff.
Quest Star...Third in this race last year -- but not really going that well in 2004.
Art Variety.

Louisiana Downs: Super Derby G2 $500K

Fantasticat 14-1
Borrego 2-1
Britt's Jules 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Cryptograph.
Ran 6th at 4-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-6.

Cryptograph...Won $100K stake at Arlington in latest. Could be in top form now and will be heard from in the lane.
Britt's Jules...Solid work for this last week. Likely to try and take them all the way.
Imperialism...Likely fave but let's face it, hasn't won since March and been off since the Preakness. Tough assignment.
Borrego.

Fairplex: Pomona Derby $100K

Semi Lost 8-5
Cozy Guy 19-1
Lava Man 3-1

Wager: $5 WP on Semi Lost.
Collected $22.00 on the WP (5.20, 3.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-6.

Semi Lost...Certainly seems turf-meant but trainer is 23% going turf-to-dirt. Faced the very good Blackdoun last two. Solid work over the track on 9/15.
Lava Man...Won the prep for this and experience over the tight track is a plus.
Bear in the Woods...Lightly raced and improving.
Skipaslew.
