Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Some days it just isn't meant to be... We chased and nipped all afternoon and managed to catch a few winners and some of the gimmicks (our top play was the cold tri in the Virginia Derby). But what really defined the day was the six races where three of ours managed to get into the top four spots -- close enough for hope, but not close enough to collect. In four of those races ours ran 1-3-4, meaning we missed the exacta and tri. Ouch! If we could have grabbed some of those it would have put us over the hump, but, again, it wasn't meant to be...

We did have three winners on top in thirteen races (Monmouth, $4.40; Colonial, $5.40; Hollywood, $3.20). And, as mentioned, we also collected on a few gimmicks although there wasn't much value offered.

Artie Schiller...Certainly another turf star in them making. Brings solid three race streak into this, including a G3 last time.
Prince Arch...Nipped top pick last time. Always concerned when a runner seems to find trouble every time -- but can't ignore this guy's talent.

Continental Red...Experience at the trip -- albeit on grass.
Total Impact.
