Coast-to-coastAt Calder we just lost the stake fair and square. The winner had won his turf debut last time -- beating our top pick, so we couldn't argue with anyone taking the nice 7-1 price there. We also missed a logical contender at Hollywood -- again, we just went another way this week but wouldn't argue with those who jumped on the winner. And finally, at Bay Meadows, the stakes winner look a tad over-matched in our opinion -- but you might have been swayed to play on the "first off the claim" angle where the trainer was showing a solid 30% stat.
Overall we had two winners in six races (Belmont, $6.80; Churchill, $3.00) -- and a couple more of our top picks ran second. We also had a small smattering of gimmicks.
