Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A nice day to close out the month of February -- where we finished in the black three of the past four Saturdays.

This week we managed to get back on track in the 'top pick department' as well, with an impressive five of our top selections winning in the six races on the card (Gulfstream, $9.40, $6.20; Oaklawn, $3.00; Fair Grounds, $5.00; Santa Anita, $12.60). We totaled a resounding 300% ROI in win-bet returns.

Otherwise we managed a cold exacta and tri in Gulfstream's The Very One (ex, $24.00/$2; tri, $125.00/$2). Plus a less valuable boxed exacta and tri at Oaklawn.

WAGERED: $266.00
COLLECTED: $276.80

Turf wagers are turf only

Aqueduct: Busher $75K

Fond 21-1
Taittinger Rose 4-1
Showmesomelove 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Mistda.
Ran 5th at 6-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-5.
...$1 tri key Mistda over next three.
Ran 5/2-3-7.
...$1 triple box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-7.

Mistda...R Dutrow filly blasted Ny-breds in NW1 two back. Faltered last time in stakes debut but had traffic trouble. We'll give her another chance today.
Showmesomelove...Broke maiden decisively two back and then might have bounced a little. Like the pattern of two sprints leading into a route. Might add value here.
Exclusively Wild...Beat the top pick winning that small stake here last time. Seemed to appreciate the two turns.
Taittinger Rose.

Gulfstream: Herecomesthebride G3 $100K

Lucifer's Stone 7-2
Dynamia 5-2
Honey Ryder 17-1

Wager: $5 WP on Lucifer's Stone.
Collected $34.50 on the WP ($9.40, 4.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-10.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-5-7-10.
...$1 triple box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-5-7-10.

Lucifer's Stone...Nice season turfing last year topped by a decent third in Miss Grillo. Comeback effort on 1/14 was a solid win on this course. right back.
Bobbie Use...Actually beat top pick in Miss Grillo and followed that with win in Tropical Oaks. Would be no surprise.
Cold Wynnter...Close second in Tropical Oaks two back then faltered at end of front-running effort last time. A stalking trip today should lead to rebound.

Gulfstream: Very One H'cp G3 $100K

Binya 2-1
Ocean Silk 5-2
Boana 12-1

Madiera Mist scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Binya.

Binya...McLaughlin still an incredible 48% at the meet. This one was Group-placed in Europe and was convincing in US debut.
Ocean Silk...That second to Islington in G1 Yorkshire Oaks stands out. Ran second in first try on this side of Atlantic last fall. Might rate higher but has been off since that effort in October.
Boana...Horse-for-course. Went 2-2 over the strip with big win here last time.
Madeira Mist.
Stay Forever.

Oaklawn: Southwest $100K

Smarty Jones 1-2

Smarty Jones...Passed his class and two-turn test last time winning Count Fleet at Aqueduct. Training well since arriving in Arkansas.
Holthus entry...Both Proper Prado and Pro Prado capable of making successful late runs.
Two Down Automatic...Showed speed and faded to be a decent third in similar Fair Grounds stake last time. Might improve second try around two turns.
South Africa.

Fair Grounds: Bayou BC H'cp G3 $125K

Bedanken 3-2
Due to Win Again 11-1
Lady Linda 10-1

Wager: $5 WP on Bedanken.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-5-6-8.
...$1 triple box top four.
Ran 1-5-6-8.

Flager...Closed a ton to finish second to top pick last time.
Baie...Fourth in G1 French Oaks last summer. Close-up second last time might signal she's acclimating to US racing.

Seattle Borders 5-1
Stalking Tiger 11-1
Jungle Prince 5-1

Minister Eric, Teton Forest scratched.

Minister Eric...Capped a big 2YO season with a solid second in BC Juvie. Has the speed if he takes to turf.
Teton Forest...Faltered when jumping from debut win into stake -- but was an OK fifth despite traffic. Equipment and surface change might help.
Saint Afleet.
