Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

We cashed tickets in seven of the ten races Saturday. Unfortunately there wasn't a whole lot of value so we just managed to eek out the narrowest of profits.

Two winners on top in those ten events (Laurel, $4.20; Gulfstream, $3.60). We were unlucky to miss another winner as Evening Attire took the worst of a bumping incident in the Campbell at Laurel and was probably the best there. However, the major disappointment of the afternoon came at Gulfstream in the Hutcheson. We went five deep with our picks -- but our plays only included the top four, unless there was a scratch. There wasn't -- but ours came in. Unfortunately that fifth pick ran second, bookended by our others in the 1-3-4 spots, completing a $79.00/$2 exacta, $574.80/$2, and a $2060.80/$2 super. Oh well, maybe next time. However, as far as superfectas go, it's worth noting that our top four combined for the $453.20 super in the Sensational Star at Santa Anita.

Our streak of positive results continues...

Bamba...Just beaten by Bronze Abe in latest.
Gazillion.

Madcap Escapade 4-5

Madcap Escapade...A gorgeous ten-length win in debut. Don't usually like maiden winners stepping into stakes -- but that facile win was over this track and at this trip, so why not a repeat?
Ready and Tough...Put together a nice string in Ky last fall. Anxious to see how she does when reunited with a "fast" track.
Smokey Glacken...Talented as a 2YO but trainer off to a cool start at meet and we'll want to see how she matured.
Sweet Vision.

Harbour Gate...Broke maiden nicely this track and trip last time. Might catch some value before this one becomes a known item.
Saratoga County...Has yet to have a trouble-free trip.
Limehouse...Pletcher is OK off the layoff -- and this one should appreciate return to sprint.
Wynn Dot Comma.
Deputy Storm.

Shadow Cast...Farish/Howard filly is clearly going to compete at this level.

Lennyfromalibu...Has five tries over this track at this distance with three wins and a near-miss third. Repeat of last two efforts should get the job done.
