Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

TV ALERT (Upstate NY): Equidaily.com's Coast-to-coast and Saratoga handicapper, Seth Merrow will be a featured analyst during the afternoon racing coverage this Friday, December 12 from 12-3PM ET on the Capital OTB Racing Network.

One of those days... It looked like we might have a little fun, particularly with the competitive grass stakes at Calder, but nothing came together. We eventually managed to salvage a little respect late in the day at Hollywood as our top four filled out the superfecta -- but after scratches the field was so short there was no value.

One winner on top in six races (Hollywood, $4.40). And we picked up a few valueless gimmicks.

As we said, it was one of those days. The two stakes at Calder were very competitive and offered some decent value but ours just didn't show up -- although our top pick in the My Charmer was edged out in the shadow of the wire. At Fair Grounds we joined plenty of folks tearing up tickets as the 45-1 rank outsider, GWs Skippie won that stake. And at Golden Gate, like Hollywood, our picks filled out the top four spots but offered no value.

WAGERED: $322.00
COLLECTED: $73.40.

Turf wagers are turf only

Aqueduct: No racing on Saturday

Canceled due to snow.

Calder: My Charmer H'cp G3 $100K

New Economy 7-1
Something Ventured 2-1
Ivanavinalot 27-1

Diadella scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Something Ventured.
Collected $11.60 on the WP (xxx, 4.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-4-5-11.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-4-5-11.

Something Ventured...Likes the trip. Has done well over the course. Been up-close all year. Pletcher almost scored here at 15-1 for us last week in a turf race.
Lost Appeal...Really seems to like the track and is making third start off a brief summer break. Should go well.
Love Sting...Developing into a nice grass filly. Brings a three-race streak into this, including G3 Calder Oaks last time out.
Diadella.
Stay Forever.

Calder: Tropical Turf H'cp G3 $100K

Political Attack 6-1
Millenium Dragon 3-1
Sforza 33-1

Wager: $5 WP on French Charmer.
Ran 8th at 7-2.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 8-11.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-4-8-11.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-4-8-11.

French Charmer...Likes the track and the trip and should have some pace to shoot at.
Serial Bride...Also should be coming late and expect this one to be a little tighter making second start off a long layoff.
Del Mar Show...Graded stakes winner from Mott might be primed for a nice effort making third start off a short break.
Millenium Dragon.

Fair Grounds: Tenacious H'cp $60K

GWs Skippie 45-1
Spanish Empire 4-1
Skate Away 10-1

Wager: $5 WP on Seainsky.
Ran 4th at 9-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-10.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 4-5-6-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 4-5-6-10.

Seainsky...The pace is something of a question mark in this race but if there's a little bit of heat up front this one might make some noise late. Dull effort at Churchill last time should help the price -- and there's no Crafty Shaw in here today.
Mercenary...This one comes back in less than a week and trainer is solid moving turf-to-dirt.
Crowned King...Bopped around most of this year doing OK in the 3YO minor league. Takes on older today but should be rolling late.
Almuhathir.

Golden Gate: Oakland H'cp $60K

Boston Common 3-5.
My Captain 3-1
More Crafty 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on More Crafty.
Ran 3rd.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $5.80 on the ex box ($11.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $13.90 on the tri box ($27.80/$2).

More Crafty...Has come back from a layoff to win two straight including a similar stake here on 11/8.
My Captain...Beaten fave when edged by top pick last time.
Boston Common...Was a Breeders' Cup entrant last year and might have a class edge on these -- but let's see how he likes NoCal first.
Sirpa.

Turf Paradise: Black Mountain H'cp $35K

Grimm 2-1
Road Afleet 12-1
Heightenedinterest 16-1

Wager: $5 WP on Speed of Light.
Ran 4th at 3-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 4-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-4-5-7.
...$3 tri key Speed of Light over next three.
Ran 4/1-5-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-5-7.

Speed of Light...From barn of red-hot SoCal trainer. Recent claim comes in from racking up a decent year on the east coast. The one to beat.
R Baggio...Came back from layoff to win sprint nicely here last time. Should go well again today.
Grimm...Horse sure likes to win and is coming off two good ones after a layoff.
Milk Wood/Jila.

Hollywood: Native Diver H'cp G3 $100K

Olmodavor 6-5
Nose the Trade 4-1
Chinkapin 4-1

Legendary Weave ran 4th and completed the superfecta, $91.60/$2.

Wager: $5 WP on Olmodavor.
Collected $18.00 on the WP (4.40, 2.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $7.80 on the ex box ($15.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $16.30 on the tri box ($32.60/$2).

Olmodavor...Gave a good account of self in comeback sprint. If Mandella can eek out any improvement this one should be tough.
Chinkapin...On the improve since arriving in SoCal. Won a stake two back and followed with a decent second in an undercard stake on BC Day.
Legendary Weave...Hard to leave one out showing a solid 6-3-3-0 record over the course.
Nose The Trade.
