Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A mixed bag. For the first time in a long while we didn't have a winner on top. That's been out strong suit for the past couple of months as we've had the winners but have been just missing some gimmicks. Saturday we missed the winners and managed to pick up some nice exacta and tri's. Of course the frustration factor came into play as we took a stand in a couple of short fields at Aqueduct and the Meadowlands -- putting our top pick on top in the gimmicks and forgoing our usually box-strategy. Ouch. Our top pick ran out but our other three completed the $439.50/$2 tri at Aqueduct in the Turnback the Alarm (also a $116.50/$2 exacta) and two of ours completed the $74.80/$2 exacta at the Meadowlands. Had we been bolder and boxed we would have moved into positive territory for the week. But the short fields scared us away... Still, we had a couple of decent hits at Calder and Bay Meadows.

WAGERED: $338.00
COLLECTED: $292.50

Turf wagers are turf only

Aqueduct: Knickerbocker H'cp G2 $150K

Better Talk Now 6-1
Del Mar Show 7-1
Millenium Dragon 10-1

Wager: $5 WP on Slew Valley.
Ran 8th at 8-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 5-7-8-11.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 5-7-8-11.

Slew Valley...Clearly a lot will depend here on the turf condition after some wet weather this week. This guy has done OK on off-going before and he has been competitive in graded stakes this year -- albeit without winning, but he might find this group to his liking.
Quest Star...If the pace is slow this one can control -- if not, he can stalk. Typically in the hunt and has gone well on 'good' turf.
Tam's Terms...Amazing 8-7-0-0 record since moving to turf. Question mark however about capability in graded company. We'll see.
Quiet Ruler.

Aqueduct: Turnback The Alarm H'cp G3 $100K

Pocus Hocus 12-1
Nonsuch Bay 7-2
Miss Linda 5-2

Wager: $5 WP on She's Got The Beat.
Ran 6th (eased, vanned off) at 9-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-6.
...$2 tri key She's Got The Beat over next three.
Ran 6/1-2-3.

She's Got The Beat...Looks like there should be a decent pace in here and that should set it up for a good stretch run by this one.
Miss Linda...Could be the toughest of the speedsters and might hang on for a piece.
Pocus Hocus...Another front-runner and has put together a strong season. This group might be a little tougher though.
Nonsuch Bay.

Calder: Good Intentions/1 $35K

Gypsy Dot 6-1
She's Vested 6-5
Tasso Run 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Tasso Run.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-8.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $30.50 on the ex box ($61.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $108.50 on the tri box ($217.00/$2).

Tasso Run...Two most recent races seem to indicate good form. Looks capable of scoring in small stake.
Astorbilt...Seems comfortable on turf and won this track and trip two back.
She's Vested...Looks like this type is the kind she can make some noise against.
Gypsy Dot.
Laurica.

Calder: Good Intentions/2 $35K

Herman's Honor 8-1
Light Dancer 16-1
Born Something 2-1

Wager: $5 WP on What a Price.
Ran 4th at 5-2.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-4-5-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-4-5-9.

What a Price...Usually in the hunt. The layoff is somewhat of a concern.
Born Something...Clement trainee is having a nice season -- also coming off a layoff.
Chit Chatter...Comfortable on turf and should find this group more to liking than last bunch.
Young Star.

Churchill: Pocahontas $100K

Stellar Jayne 2-1
Turn to Lass 7-1
Sister Star 11-1

Quick Start scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Turn to Lass.
Collected $15.50 on the WP (xxx, 6.20).
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $18.30 on the ex box $36.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4.

Turn to Lass...Hasn't done anything wrong in two Chicago starts. Stretches out -- but the mile is only one-turn on this track and she looks ready for this spot.
Marina de Chavon...Had a huge win in her second start then was a close-up second in a stake at Calder, moved up on a DQ after trouble.
Stellar Jayne...Like many DW Lukas runners this filly needed a race to get going. Is now undefeated since that maiden try.
Quick Start.

Santa Anita: Pinjara $70K

Rush Into Heaven 9-1
Lucky Pulpit 5-1
Nister Bere 3-1

Wager: $5 WP on Nister Bere.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-5-7-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-5-7-9.

Nister Bere...Hmmm, we got to see what Euro shippers thought of the Santa Anita course last week. Looks primed for this coming of a ten-race Euro season, adds Lasix today.
General Moody...Like the fact that he moved up and scored nicely when placed on turf last time.
The Herc...Like many in here he tests the grass for first time today but he picked up a 2YO stake last time and will be tough if he likes the surface.
True Contender.

Bay Meadows: Bay Meadows Derby G3 $100K

Stanley Park 7-1
Bis Repetitas 2-1
Kewen 5-2

Wager: $5 WP on Bis Repetitas.
Collected $9.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $27.50 on the ex box ($55.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $82.70 on the tri box ($165.40/$2).

Bis Repetitas...Frankel turfer hasn't really broken through since coming stateside -- but this bunch looks a little easier than some of the others stakes crowds he's faced.
Mediator...Drysdale trainee has only two starts -- both wins, and both over this track.
Kewen...SoCal shipper is 4-2-1-1 lifetime and should be heard from here.
Stanley Park.

Meadowlands: Comet $45K

Pleasant Honor 9-2
Scary Bob 5-1
Dennisport 32-1

Wager: $5 WP on Relato Del Gato.
Ran 5th at 3-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-5.
...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 1-5-6.
...$2 tri key Relato Del Gato over next three.
Ran 5/1-2-6.

Relato Del Gato...Has had a little trouble in both starts but moved forward last time to win nicely. Can repeat with a similar effort.
Pleasant Honor...Throw out the troubled trip in Florida and this one has been moving forward with each start.
Southern Trial...Put it all together last time and might be ready for this assignment.
Scary Bob.
