Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Three winners on top in eleven races -- and a fourth was DQ'd from the win (Belmont, $3.10; Ky Downs, $5.80; Turfway, $5.60). Our top two picks flip-flopped in the Floral Park for a decent $27.80/$2 exacta. We had the $8.70/$2 exacta in the Ruffian cold. Top two flip-flopped in the Turfway H'cp for a meager $6.00/$2 exacta. Our best race was the stake at Calder where our second and third picks combined for the $23.60/$2 exacta, our fourth pick completed the $183.00/$2 tri, and our top selection rounded out the $445.40 super. We also took a hit on the day by seeing three of our top picks scratch. And if there's a regret it's not having Cajun Beat in our mix in the Ky Cup Sprint. That 7-1 winner was coming out of the same stake at Calder that produced the nice Saratoga sprint stake winner Valid Video.

WAGERED: $352.00
COLLECTED: $215.05.

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: Floral Park H'cp

Bauhauser 5-1
Shine Again 1-2
Literary Light 18-1

Gold Mover scratched.

Wager: $5 W on Shine Again.
Ran 2nd.
...$5 exacta Shine Again over Gold Mover.
Scratched.
...$1 tri key Gold Mover over next three.
Scratched.

Shine Again...Has yet to miss the board over the Belmont surface. Should have plenty of speed to shoot at.
Gold Mover...Only one-half of the Hennig entry will go (Bailey named on both) and we prefer this one. Likes the track and the trip and can run big on occasion.
Bauhauser...S American import improved nicely in second US start and will contend for the top spot if able to move forward once again.
Forest Heiress.

Belmont: BC H'cp

Della Francesca 16-1
Rouvres 3-1
Volponi 3-5

Wager: $5 WP on Volponi.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-5.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-5.

Volponi...Has finished second recently to Mineshaft, M' d'Oro and Puzzlement. No such runners in here so this one might have a slight class edge and he's performed well on turf before. Picks up yet another new jock -- J Velazquez.
Rouvres...Gotta feeling this one hasn't shown best stuff yet. G! winner in Europe has gone well in three US tries -- two dull efforts show some traffic trouble in comment lines.
State Shinto...Had some traffic trouble in latest. Returns to turf which might be his preferred surface.
Political Attack.

Belmont: Jerome H'cp

During 6-1
Tafaseel 6-1
Pretty Wild 6-5

Wager: $5 WP on Pretty Wild.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-3-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-3-4-6.

Pretty Wild...Promising 2YO, was laid off for the better part of a year after the Champagne. Came back to run a doozy last month at the Spa. Might be this good.
Inamorato...A little bit of an iffy pick because he finally woke up when re-introduced to a fast track last time -- but rain is in the forecast for today. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Roses in May...4-2-2-0 lifetime, including a huge win last time in Spa alw. Could be ready for move into stakes company.
During.
Tafaseel.

Belmont: Ruffian H'cp

Wild Spirit 1-2
You 4-1
Passing Shot 6-1

Wager: $5 W on Passing Shot.
Collected $7.75 on the WP ($3.10).
...$5 tri key Wild Spirit over next three.
Collected $57.00 on the tri key ($22.80/$2).

Wild Spirit...Upset in G1 Personal Ensign as part of Frankel's cold streak -- and that cold streak is not confirmed as over, so perhaps these two top picks are a little crazy. But we'll go with this gal to bounce back to previous form which makes her tough to beat here.
You...Might get some value on this Frankel filly off of dull try in last -- but go back a year and she ran a somewhat dull one and then came into this same event to run second.
She's Got The Beat...Seldom runs a poor one.
Passing Shot.

Calder: Judys Red Shoes

Formal Miss 2-1
Dakota Light 3-1
Miss Tassy 11-1

Wager: $5 WP on Spectacular Lisa.
Ran 4th at 3-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $11.80 on the ex box ($23.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $91.50 on the tri box ($183.00/$2).

Spectacular Lisa...6-3-3-0 lifetime. Just missed in only turf try.
Formal Miss...Has been very consistent on the turf -- particularly on this course.
Dakota Light...Beat top pick two back.
Miss Tassy.
Dyna Flyer.

Kentucky Downs: Yaqthan

Naraingang 9-5
Bud's Magic 14-1
Wudantunoit 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Naraingang.
Collected $24.50 on the WP ($5.80, 4.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-8.

Naraingang...11-7-1-1 lifetime on the turf and displayed his preference for the surface in second US start. Set up well for this.
Wudantunoit...Has put together a pretty solid season and the win in turf sprint last time should have him ready.
Bail Out the King...Inconsistent sort can compete when in the mood.
Are You Down.

Kentucky Downs: Pleasant Temper

Powderjay 9-2
Manhattan Skyline 2-1
Cat and the Hat 6-1

Hi Tech Honeycomb scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Hi Tech Honeycomb.
Scratched.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Scrached.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-6-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-6-9.

Hi Tech Honeycomb...Got the job done last time when dropped out of graded company. This small stake is probably comparable competition to latest.
Manhattan Skyline...Mott trainee is usually in the hunt.
Passionate Bird...Lone turf try showing on recent PP's was bang-up. Should go well with switch back to that surface.
Bag of Stars.

Turfway: KC Juv

Mr Jeser 20-1
The Cliff's Edge 7-2
Pomeroy 3-5

Ruler's Court scratched.
Pomeroy finished first was DQ'd to third.

Wager: $5 WP on Ruler's Court.
Scratched.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-5.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-5.

Ruler's Court...Trainer owner combo have had 2YOs improve nicely in the past as summer moves into fall.
Pomeroy...Probable fave ran tow super races to start career for good freshmen trainer. Then was a decent second behind Cuvee in the G2 Saratoga Special.
The Cliff's Edge...2YOs are always eligible to improve second time out -- however, the move from MSW to stakes is a big one, and Zito's Birdstone was unable to accomplish the feat.
Bogangles.

Turfway: KC Classic H'cp

Perfect Drift 7-5
Congaree 1-2
Crafty Shaw 9-1

Wager: $10 exacta Congaree over Perfect Drift.
Ran 2/1.
...$4 exacta Perfect Drift over Congaree.
Collected $12.00 on the exacta ($6.00/$2).

Congaree...Looks faster than the other speed, Crafty Shaw. Should be able to control this small field start to finish.
Perfect Drift...Ran eighth in grassy Arlington Million -- but was only three lengths back. However, two dirt stakes prior to that were nice wins, including one over division leader Mineshaft.
Crafty Shaw.

Turfway: Turfway BC

Smok'n Frolic 9-5
Awesome Humor 2-1
So Much More 6-1

Desert Gold scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Desert Gold.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-5-6.

Desert Gold...Seems to have turned the corner and become a nice one this summer. 2-2 at the trip.
Smok'n Frolic...Pletcher filly has been facing some of the best in the division. Should go well here.
Country Romance...Lukas/Overbrook filly is 7-4-2-1 lifetime.
Win's Fair Lady.

Turfway: KC Sprint

Cajun Beat 7-1
Clock Stopper 3-1
Champali 2-1

Wager: $5 WP on Clock Stopper.
Collected $10.50 on the WP (xxx, 4.20).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-5-7-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-5-7-10.

Clock Stopper...Hmmmm, was that a weak bunch last time -- or the emergence of a potential sprint star? We'll see today.
Gold Storm...It's hard to know where the talent-ceiling is until they're beaten. Again, we'll get a better idea about this one today.
Fifteen Rounds...Finally had win-streak snapped last time by Coach Jimi Lee -- but cuts back to 6F where he's 4-4.
Coach Jimi Lee.
