Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

More of the same... It wasn't a bad day with the picks -- unforutnately we were collecting on the value-less races and just couldn't get a 'finisher' in some of the tri's.

Three winners on top in nine races (Belmont, $3.40; Monmouth, 6.80; Churchill, 2.80). We also had three cold exactas (Belmont, $10.20/$2; Monmouth, $21.80/$2; Churchill, $17.20/$2). And our top two picks were flip-flopped for two more exactas (Arlington, $21.20/$2; Monmouth, $7.00/$2). you can see our frustration regarding the tri's as our top two ran 1-2 in five of nine but we only managed to fill the tri slot in one of those events. We did grab one cold tri, the tini $17.20/$2 gimmick in the Ipi Tombe race at Churchill. So we had some action going in most of the races on the card -- there just wasn't enough value there to get us over the hump.

WAGERED: $281.00
COLLECTED: $185.35

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: Mother Goose/NTRA Summer P3 Leg One

Spoken Fur 9-2
Yell 7-5
Fial Round 5-2

Wager: $5 W on Roar Emotion.
Ran 5th at 3-1.
...$3 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-6.
...$1 tri key Roar Emotion over next three.
Ran 5/1-2-6.
...$1 tri key Rhumb Line over other three.
Ran 6/1-2-5.

Roar Emotion...Wired 'em last time in the G2 Black-Eyed Susan to run record to 5-3-2-0. Similar strategy should be even more effective around one-turn.
Rhumb Line...Undefeated and improving in three starts. Needs a Beyer jump to get it done here -- but not as much of a jump as you might expect considering this is a G1.
Yell...McGaughey filly has loads of potential and certainly wouldn't be a surprise here -- but best two races were at Gulfstream and we all know that some horses just love that track. We need to see a solid effort on another surface before we become believers.
Spoken fur.

Arlington: Arlington Classic/NTRA Summer P3 Leg Two

Lismore Knight 2-1
Remind 5-2
Good Day Too 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Remind.
Collected $9.00 on the WP (xxx, 3.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $21.20 on the ex box ($21.20/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $10.10 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-10.

Remind...Mott turfer has run second behind Senor Swinger in last two and Senor looks to be turning into a very nice grass runner. This guy could get the job done here without that foe in the lineup.
Lismore Knight...Grass stakes winner last year as a 2YO. First start of this year was a nice win. Formidable.
European...Undefeated in two tries across the pond. Could be any kind.
Rapid Proof.

Monmouth: Molly Pitcher/NTRA Summer P3 Leg Three

Summer Colony 2-5
She's Got The Beat 5-1
Call An Audible 9-1

Wager: $5 W on She's Got The Beat.
Ran 2nd.
...$5 exacta She's Got The Beat over Summer Colony.
Ran 2/1.

She's Got The Beat...Might get the first jump on 'em.
Summer Colony... Clearly the class of the field and will make it look easy if able to regain best '02 form. But last three have been less than stellar and '03 debut was only OK. Need to see one before declaring her back to where she was.

Belmont: Tremont

Heckle 5-2
Adage 9-1
Hasslefree 11-1

Limehouse scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Best To Be King.
Ran 6th at 6-5.
...$5 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$2 tri key Best To Be King over next three.
Ran 6/3-4.
...$1 tri key Limehouse over other three.
Scratched.

Best To Be King...The outside post is no bonus but this one looked pretty good in debut. If he can move forward at all off of that effort he'll be a monster.
Limehouse...Looked superb winning a stake on the Derby undercard.
Hasslefree...Ran second in the Flash earlier this month. Clearly capable of making presence felt.
Pretty Wild Again.

Belmont: Mike Lee

Bossnova 3-5
Acceptable 3-1
Limone Forte 35-1

Wager: $5 WP on Bossanova.
Collected $13.75 on the WP (3.40, 2.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $10.20 on the ex box ($10.20/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $5.10 on the ex box.
...$1 tri key Bossanova over next three.
Ran 1/2-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-6.

Bossanova...Has been doing well so far against open company -- including a couple of decent finishes in last two behind Posse, and that one won a stake recently over Frankel's very good Midas Eyes. "The Boss" should appreciate move in against state-breds.
Acceptable Venture...Was probably overmatched in Blue Grass -- but just missed prior to that in the Rushaway. Dusted NY-breds in latest.
Spite The Devil...Another which has had success in open company -- winning G3 Withers two back. Only knock is inconsistency.
Looking Grand.

Monmouth: Lincroft H'cp

American Freedom 2-1
Catechol 6-1
Beknown to Me 11-1

Wager: $5 WP on American Freedom.
Collected $25.50 on the WP (6.80, 3.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $21.80 on the ex box ($21.80/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $10.90 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-7.

American Freedom...Won this race last year. Has two wins in three tries over the course. Wet weather has forced his last two off-turf but they were decent tries which should set him up well for this.
Catechol...Was a close second in this stake last year -- and that followed a dull dirt try, just like this year.
Upturn...First-time turf -- but going well lately and addition of blinkers indicates the strategy might be to take 'em all the way.
Our Wildcat.
Whopaho.

Calder: JJs Dream

For All Who Dream 12-1
Usual Maner 6-5
Prohibido Olividar 4-1

Wager: $5 WP on Usual Manner.
Collected $8.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-8.

Usual Manner...Takes a big step up from mdn clm to stakes -- but that debut Beyer is just too good to ignore.
Ladyinareddress...They can always improve in second start and that's what we expect from this gal.
Prohibido Olividar...Can't fault the two nice wins so far.
Souther Division.

Churchill: Locust Grove

Ipi Tombe 2-5
Kiss the Devil 6-1
Quick Tip 3-1

Wager: $5 exacta Ipi Tombe over Kiss The Devil.
Collected $23.50 on the exacta ($9.40/$2).
...$2 exacta Ipi Tombe over Quick Tip.
Ran 1-3.
...$3 tri key Ipi Tombe over next two.
Collected $25.80 on the tri key ($17.20/$2).

Ipi Tombe...First race back from Dubai is usually an iffy proposition -- but note the key word: "back". Unlike most US-based World Cup runners this lady was situated in Dubai all winter. Going 3-3, beating a quality world-class field in latest.
Kiss The Devil...Have a feeling we might see a nice move forward in first start of '03.
Quick Tip...Likes the track, although can't seem to get it done at the trip.

Hollywood: Beverly Hills H'cp

Voodoo Dancer 5-2
Dublino 1-1
Megahertz 9-5

Tates Creek scratched.

Wager: $5 W on Megahertz.
Ran 3rd.
...$3 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$2 tri key Megahertz over next two.
Scratched.

Megahertz...This seems to be the trip this Frankel filly prefers.
Voodoo Dancer...Trainer wasn't really pointing to this -- things just got washed out on the east coast -- so that's a question mark. however, has done well shipping west before. Always in the hunt.
Tates Creek...Frankel's other entry is as solid as they come. The distance is a question mark -- but with limited tries its still possible she can get it done.
