Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Just could not get over the hump all afternoon. Early on we were looking at a nice return at Belmont as our 13-1 fourth choice passed our 7-2 third choice and our top choice, favored Lilac Queen from Frankel/Bailey was running third at about the mid-stretch point. Unfortunately it looked like Mr Bailey threw in the towel when the battle for the top spot was out of reach and Lilac Queen couldn't complete what would have been a nice tri. In the two races where our top pick won we couldn't manage anything else underneath. Doh! And at Churchill and Hollywood we left out a couple of runners that were playable -- but we took a stand against, and they both jumped up and bit us.

However, we did manage to cash a few. Two winners on top (Delaware, $7.80; Woodbine, $4.50). A decent exacta (in the scenario mentioned above) at Belmont ($122.50/$2). And our best play of the day came at Calder where our boxes grabbed the exacta ($32.40/$2) and tri ($154.20/$2) -- and though we didn't play it, boxing our four picks would have resulted in a $927.80/$2 super.

WAGERED: $343.00
COLLECTED: $223.70

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: Sheepshead Bay H'cp

Mariensky 13-1
Owsley 7-2
Silent Crystal 28-1

Wager: $5 WP on Lilac Queen.
Ran 5th at 3-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $61.25 on the ex box ($122.50/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-6.

Lilac Queen...Frankel trainee is a perfect 3-3 since arriving from Europe and 6-5-1-0 overall. Tough today with Bailey onboard.
Snow Dance...Always in the hunt and looks ready for a good one making third start of the year.
Owsley...Came into this event last year in somewhat similar fashion and was a just-miss fourth.
Mariensky.

Monmouth: Revidere

City Fire 1-1
Ladyecho 3-1
Impolite 3-1

Off turf -- wagers canceled.

Snowdrops...The far outside post is no bonus in this mile turf event -- but with plenty of speed in here it looks like a closer might have an edge. We'll see -- but this looks like the best of those coming from off the pace.
A Queen's Smile...Also shows some closing ability. Adds Blinkers. Makes third start off of layoff. Improving.
Impolite...If one is able to sneak away on the front-end this might be that filly.
Bella Tusa.

Wager: $5 WP on Snowdrops.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Delaware: Go For Wand

Hennie's Song 5-2
Coquettish 5-1
Virgin Voyage 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Hennie's Song.
Collected $30.00 on the WP (7.80, 4.20).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-7-8-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-7-8-9.

Hennie's Song...Can't fault the perfect 3-3 record and trainer is blazing this meet.
City Sister...NY-shipper from Hennig brings Gryder along for the ride. Improving and might do well in second stakes try.
Boxer Girl...Working well and could be ready to duplicate that Laurel form from earlier this year.
Five Star Hero.

Pimlico: Skipat

Bronze Abe 7-2
Skip The Print 3-1
Shiny Sheet 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Valley Parking.
Ran 5th at 12-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $18.40 on the ex box ($36.80/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-8.

Valley Parking...A solid performer throws in a clunker occasionally but is right there more often than not and we feel the new jock might keep him in the mood today.
Hunka Hunka Lori Z...Another that might like the jock switch. Goes back to Pino who has done well on this one before.
Bronze Abe...Bested top pick winning a clm/alw here last month.
Skip The Print.

Calder: Royal Glint

Patriotic Flame 3-1
Whos Crying Now 3-1
News Report 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on News Report.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $16.20 on the ex box ($32.20/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $77.10 on the tri box ($154.20/$2).
Note: Kinsman Valor completed the super -- $927.80/$2

News Report...Has changed hands three times in last four starts -- and with good reason, he won all four. No tag attached last time and he still managed a Beyer high. Going well now and loves the track.
Whos Crying Now...Really seemed to be getting the hang of it in three prior to last. That one was a somewhat dull turf effort -- return to dirt should be appreciated.
Kinsman Valor...A 'fast' track and the blinkers might bring back that Gulfstream form.
Patriotic Flame.

Churchill: Louisville H'cp

Kim Loves Bucky 4-1
Rochester 5-1
Dr Kashnikow 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Quest Star.
Ran 5th at 5-2.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-5.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-3-4-5.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-3-4-5.

Quest Star...Tepid pick in contentious heat. Looks like this one might be able to get out to the early lead and front-runners often take these turf marathons.
Dr Kashnikow...Might have need last -- and the wide trip didn't help. Should appreciate return to this course.
Dr Brendler...Solid win at 18-1 on Preakness undercard. That was second straight win and seems to indicate an in-form runner.
Roxinho.
Rochester.
Red Mountain.

Arlington: Real Delight

In Secure 6-5
Nicole's Dream 44-1
Feisty Princess 9-1

Fast Cookie scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Fast Cookie.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 4-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 4-5-6.

Fast Cookie...Kind of wonder if this Mott sprinter might prefer this shorter distance than has been running recently.
Crow Jane...Another that should go well at six panels.
Abounding Truth...4-3-0-1 lifetime and those wins are by daylight. Gets a little test for class here but wouldn't be a surprise.
Leaseholders Dream.

Woodbine: Alywow

Hour of Justice 6-5
Teewee's Hope 34-1
Miss Crissy 18-1

Wager: $5 WP on Hour Of Justice.
Collected $20.75 on WP (4.50, 3.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-4-9-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-9-10.

Hour Of Justice...Speedster won first two and then just missed in stakes debut. Should go well on turf.
Queen Mindy...Put in a couple of nice turf trips in New Orleans this winter.
Sweet Storm Creek...Proven on turf including a G3 placing. Off since Oct though.
Beautiful Baroness.

Hollywood: Ack Ack H'cp

Joey Franco 5-2
Kela 8-1
Publication 3-1

Gondolieri scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Publication.

Ran 3-4.
...$5 quinella top two.
Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-4.

Publication...Has looked fit and ready in two starts so far this year.
Crafty CT...Proven stakes performer looks like the one to beat.
Kela...Hasn't sprinted in awhile but has shown some ability at the trip in the past -- and likes the oval.
Gondolieri.
