Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A long, long afternoon. Wet weather washed a couple of turf events to dirt at Monmouth -- we were left with only one event there, which, like the race at Belmont, was run over a soggy main track. In the six races we ended up with we just couldn't get over the hump. The best score of the day was the $88.80/$2 exacta at Lone Star using our second and third picks. Our only winner on top on the day was the meagerly priced Azeri ($2.40) -- but we couldn't hit our cold exacta there as Gary Stevens made an early move with Affluent, our second choice, which left her flat in the lane.

WAGERED: $222.00

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: Peter Pan

Go Rockin Robin 13-1
Alysweep 5-2
Supervisor 24-1

Wager: $5 W on Alysweep.
Ran 2nd.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 2-4-5.

Alysweep...Gets the nod on proven stakes winning experience. Has a G3 win on resume and a just miss in another G3 last time. Gets Bailey in the saddle today.
Nacheezmo...Seems to have blossomed as a 3YO. Might be ready for stakes test.
Spite The Devil...Won G3 Withers last time -- beating the top choice -- but not sure the pace scenario will set up as nicely today.

Monmouth: Gilded Time

Buzzy's Gold 7-2
Valid Video 4-5
Rockin On Ready 3-1

Off turf. Wagers canceled.

Valid Video...Undefeated at trips less than a mile. Grass is a question mark however.
Rockin On Ready...Faltered in only turf try but speedy sort is worth another look going only five panels.
Second In Command...Last couple might help the price -- but that big win three back shows he's capable of good things if he likes the conditions. Let's see if he likes grass.
Paris Adventure.

Wager: $5 WP on Valid Video.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 triple box top four.

Monmouth: John J Reilly H'cp

Jersey Giant 6-1
Beknown to Me 11-1
Our Wildccat 8-5

Kaw Liga Sioux scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Our Wildcat.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-5-6.
...$1 triple box top four.
Ran 3-5-6.

Our Wildcat...Horse loves the track and trip. Came off a long layoff to win seasonal debut here last year.
Sheryar Special...When he's ready to go he's a top-two finisher -- otherwise, nowhere. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Kaw Liga Sioux...Put together a nice, limited season last year. Will need to show some improvement against these but that's not out of the question in 3YO debut.
Lyle Lovesit.

Monmouth: Red Bank H'cp

Just Le Facts 8-1
Saint Verre 1-5
Runspastum 6-1

Off turf. Wagers canceled.

Miesque's Approval...Mott turfer was solid but not overwhelming last year. Started this season similarly with two 101 Beyers -- both in second-place finishes however. Could be ready to breakout.
Union One...Making third start after long layoff.
French Charmer...Consistent and consistently improving since moving to new barn last fall.
Tam's Terms.

Wager: $5 WP on Miesque's Approval.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 triple box top four.

Calder: Simply Majestic

The Name's Bond 4-1
Hear No Evil 9-5
Sea Pleasure 10-1

Two Night Stand scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Magic Mecke, sub Amon if Magic Mecke is stuck on AE list.
Magic Mecke ran 9th at 11-1.
...$2 exacta box top two, sub next if scratch.
Ran 9-11.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 3-5-9-11.
...$1 triple box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 3-5-9-11.

Magic Mecke...Must make it in from AE list. Hmmm, he's on a good-bad cycle and this should be a 'bad' one -- but he seems to like Calder and might be ready to string a couple together.
Amon...Has been running well this year. Closing style has been coming up just short but addition of blinkers might put him in the game sooner.
Sea Pleasure...Seemed to appreciate the return to this oval last time, winning a stake in best performance to date.
Two Night Stand.
Regal Bear.

Churchill: Mint Julep

Kiss the Devil 13-1
Quick Tip 8-5
Cellars Shiraz 8-1

Wager: $5 WP on Quick Tip.
Collected $8.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-5.
...$1 triple box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-5.

Quick Tip...Don't like that she was dull in this event last year after a nice try -- but she seems to be a little more consistent since last fall.
San Dare...Always in the hunt, probably better at longer distances although her record at the trip is 5-3-0-0.
Stylish...Mott mare might be ready to go after a decent try to start the season in March.
Cellars Shiraz.

Lone Star: Stonerside

Miss Bridget Jones 3-1
Souris 7-1
City Sleeper 25-1

Wager: $5 WP on Letithappencaptain.
Ran 5th at 2-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $44.40 on the ex box ($88.80/$2).
...$1 triple box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-8.

Letithappencaptain...Really woke up last time when introduced to the Lone Star strip and a repeat of that effort would take this.
Miss Bridget Jones...Undefeated in two starts including a good-looking win last time in first try for trainer Cole.
Souris...A player in the 2YO filly division last year picking up checks in a number of stakes. Faltered last time but should rebound off the brief rest.
Real Bear.

Hollywood: Milady BC H'cp

Azeri 1-5
Enjoy 9-1
Tropical Blossom 53-1

Wager: $10 exacta Azeri over Affluent Ran 1-5.
...$5 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-5.
...$5 tri Azeri/Affluent/Enjoy.
Ran 1/5/2.
...$2 tri Azeri/Enjoy/Affluent.
Ran 1/2/5.

Azeri...Horse of the Year looks much the best in here.
Affluent...Should complete the exacta behind Azeri once again.
