Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Turf wagers are turf only

Belmont: Shuvee H'cp

Wild Spirit 10-1
Smok'n Frolic 3-1
You 7-5

Wager: $5 W on Raging Fever.
Ran 6th at 3-1.
...$4 exacta Raging Fever over You.
Ran 3-6.
...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 2-3-6.

Raging Fever...Likes the track and the trip. Ran second in this event last year and seems to be coming into this in a little bit better form.
You...Frankel filly would be no surprise. Capable of taking this despite Beyers that are perhaps a touch light so far this year.
Smok'n Frolic.

Churchill: Dogwood

Golden Marlin 7-2
Double Scoop 2-1
Throne 32-1

Wager: $5 WP on Wildcat Queen.
Ran 6th at 5-2.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-6.
$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-6.

Wildcat Queen...Lightly raced Walden filly might be ready for the jump to stakes competition. Finds a fairly weak crowd here.
Double Scoop...Another lightly raced and improving sort who might find this field a good spot for stakes debut.
My Trusty Cat...Stakes winner would rank as top pick except for big gap between most recent works. And the 5/11 jaunt was not inspiring. Still, this one is the best as far as race record goes.
Golden Marlin.

Pimlico: Maryland BC H'cp

Pioneer Boy/entry 3-5
Sassy Hound 3-1
Tasty Caberneigh/entry 3-5
Highway Prospector/entry 3-5
Clergy 7-1

Crossing Point scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Sassy Hound.
Collected $7.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $9.60 on the ex box ($9.60/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $4.80 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-7.

Sassy Hound... this is really a wide open event but that nice 113 Beyer with a stalking trip last Sept sticks out here. Capable if able to recapture that form.
Pioneer Boy...Three-horse Gill entry all look tough but this guy seems to have the speed to carry this field well into the lane.
Crossing Point...Wins over half his starts at the trip and is coming off a nice minor stakes win.
The Deputy Is Home.

Pimlico: Woodlawn

Gang 8-1
Sigint 6-1
Breanna's Smile 11-1

Urban King, Silver Tree, Kicken Kris scratched.

Off the turf -- wagers cancelled.

Urban King...Frankel Euro-import gave a good account of self last time making US debut in stake. A repeat of that effort could probably take this -- any improvement and this one's a run away winner.
Silver Tree...Mott/Bailey turfer is lightly raced but improving.
Christmas Away...Seems to have improved slightly with move to turf in last two. Tough call but capable of hitting the gimmicks with best effort.
Kicken Kris.

Wager: $5 WP on Urban King.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Pimlico: Hirsch Jacobs

Mt Carson 7-2
Gators N Bears 5-1
Only The Best 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Love Sam.
Ran 8th at 9-2.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 6-8.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $21.90 on the ex box ($43.80/$2).
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-2-6-8.

Love Sam...Seems to have improved nicely as a 3YO. Tested today but capable if able to hold nice form.
Get Smarter...Another improving sort and any more movement forward in third start of year will make this one a competitor here.
Gators N Bears...This guy is always tough -- except for two incredibly dull efforts, and both of those were on off tracks. So confidence is kind of low today.
Mt Carson.
Epic.

Pimlico: Gallorette H'cp

Carib Lady 6-1
Affirmed Dancer 3-1
Lady of the Future 13-1

Riskaverse scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Riskaverse.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-5-6.

Riskaverse...Ugh. Not really enthusiastic about using this one off the long layoff -- but she just looks to have a little more class than the others. Tepid vote.
Saranac Lake...Mott/Bailey filly has won two of three this year and seems to be getting the hang of US racing.
Vespers...Has been fairly competitive since last summer but still has to prove self in stakes company.
Affirmed Dancer.

Pimlico: Sir Barton

Best Minister 3-1
During 7-5
Penobscot Bay 5-1
Get Smarter scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Get Smarter.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $11.20 on the ex box ($22.40/$2).
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $38.70 on the tri box ($77.40/$2).

Get Smarter...Improving sort might surprise here in first try around two turns.
Sky Soldier...Had troubled trip in Wood, was undefeated in three tries prior.
Best Minister...Monster win to break maiden in fifth try for McPeek last time. Tough if able to duplicate that effort against winners.
During.
Penobscot Bay.

Pimlico: Dixie

Dr Brendler 18-1
Perfect Soul 8-5
Sardaukar 18-1

Sarafan, Blue Stellar, Dr Kashnikow scratched.

All wagers void after scratches.

Sarafan...Drysdale is average off the layoff. This G1 winner is a standout here if ready to roll in first start since December.
Blue Stellar...Frankel turfer equaled top Beyer of 104 in first start of year last time. Should go well.
Del Mar Show...Mott/Bailey turfer is pretty consistent at this level. Ran second here last year.
Dr Kashnikow.

Wager: $5 WP on Sarafan.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Pimlico: WD Schaefer

Windsor Castle 9-2
Changeintheweather 6-1
Tempest Fugit 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Tempest Fugit.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-4-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-4-7-8.

Tempest Fugit...Might be tough to run down in the lane if able to get the lead early.
Strive...Has improved Beyer-wise as a 4YO but yet to win this year. Hard to leave out of the mix however.
Roger E...Could provide a challenge on the front end for the top pick and one might fold while other will be there at the end. Trick is figuring out which one.
P Day.

Pimlico: Preakness

Funy Cide 9-5
Midway Road 20-1
Scrimshaw 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Kissin Saint.
Ran 10th at 10-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 4-10.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-10.

Kissin Saint...Typically the 3YO's sort themselves out somewhat by Triple Crown time, but that hasn't been the case the last two years. The 3YO races have been prime ground for upsets. So we'll take a shot here with the third-place finisher in the Wood. Had a little excuse with a bump in that race. Comes into this fresh and could contend if ready to improve.
Peace Rules...Unlikely to get the same challenge up front as he faced in the Derby. With less pace this one should be tougher in the lane -- and he was pretty darn tough last time despite the early pressure.
Funny Cide.. Sentimental fave to grab this and head to NY with a Triple Crown on the line. But there are still some question marks as to just how good this one really is. Those should be answered today one way or the other.
Scrimshaw/Senor Swinger entry.
