Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

We labelled it a lackluster card and that's what it turned out to be for us. There were some opportunities to turn it into a better day but overall we just couldn't find the value Saturday.

Four winners on top in seven races (Calder, 7.00; Hollywood, 2.60, 5.20; Turf Paradise, 2.60). A cold exacta at Calder for $38.20/$2. And a cold exacta and tri at Turf Paradise ($6.00/$2, $20.60/$2). We were zapped on our take-a-stand quinella in the Hollywood Futurity as our two finished 1-2 but Kafwain was DQ'd to fourth. And one of ours ran fourth under our cold exacta at Calder, just missing completing our tri. If those come in we end up with a fair day. Oh well, there's always next week.

WAGERED: $296.00
COLLECTED: $163.80

Turf wagers are turf only

Aqueduct: Ladies H'cp

Critical Eye 5-1
Ellie's Moment 9-1
With Ability 1-2

Wager: $5 W on With Ability.
Ran 3rd.
...$5 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-3.
...$1 exacta box top three.
Ran 2-3-4.
...$1 tri box top three.
No tri offered. Short field.

With Ability...Coming out of a nice wire job in prep for this. Should handle the off-going and be able to lead this small field all the way.
Ellie's Moment...Stretching out after two one-turn miles. A potent angle.
Wishful Splendor...Beyers are a little light but Zito filly has been solid since Saratoga.
Critical Eye.

Calder: Frances Genter

Cellars Shiraz 5-2
Madeira Mist 6-1
May Gator 10-1

Wager: $5 WP on Cellars Shiraz.
Collected $26.50 on the WP (7.00, 3.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $38.20 on the ex box ($38.20/$2).
...$2 exacta box top three.
Collected $38.20 on the ex box.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $19.10 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-11.

Cellars Shiraz...Undefeated on the course and only out of the exacta once in nine turf tries. Should be able to make or stay close to the pace in this two-turn sprint.
Madeira Mist...Clement filly showed a real liking for the course last time.
Strait From Texas...Canadian invader has seemed on the improve as the season has progressed.
Perfect Energy.

Calder: Pete Axthelm

Stormy Roman 31-1
Swift Replica 17-1
Miesque's Approval 5-2

The Judge Sez Who scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Miesque's Approval.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-6-7.

Miesque's Approval...Mott turfer has burned some money in the past but certainly seems capable at the trip and looked solid scoring here last time out.
Union Place...Faltered in Hollywood Derby but won Calder Derby in prior start. A rebound to that effort will be enough to contend.
The Judge Sez Who...Respectable third in Calder Derby behind top two. Post is no bonus and dirt is probably preferred surface but this one is just to consistent to ignore. Pincay rides.
Thefull Circle.

Fair Grounds: Pago Hop

Bedanken 8-5
Dynamic Lady 30-1
Lush Soldier 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Caught In The Rain.
Ran 4th at 7-2.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-5.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-5.

Caught In The Rain...Undefeated since moving to the lawn, that includes a win at Churchill in a G2 last time.
Bedanken...Dangerous foe was a half behind top pick in last.
Lush Soldier...Fifth behind top two last time but have a feeling she can do better.
Voodoo Lady.

Hollywood: Dahlia H'cp

Surya 1-1 DH
Tout Charmant 9-2 DH
Honestly Darling 11-1

Tates Creek scratched
Dead heat for win

Wager: $5 WP on Tates Creek.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-3-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-3-6-7.

Tates Creek...Frankel filly on two race win streak and looks suited to the trip and track.
Surya...Another from Frankel that has done well on the track and over the distance.
I'm The Business...Latest was a little dull but had strung together some good ones prior. Look for a rebound.
Honestly Darling.
Reine de Romance.

Hollywood: Futurity

Toccet 8-5
Domestic Dispute 13-1
Coax Kid 22-1

Kafwain finished 2nd, DQ'd to 4th

Wager: $5 W on Toccet.
Collected $13.00 on the W (5.20).
...$15 quinella top two.
Finished 1-2 but lost after the DQ.
...$2 tri Toccet/Kafwain/Roll Hennessy Roll.
Ran 1-2-5 -- after DQ 1-4-5.

Toccet...Winning two-turn experience. BC Juv is only real blemish on an otherwise splendid record. If able to duplicate Remsen win he'll be tough to beat.
Kafwain...Off since runner-up finish in BC Juv. First race after BC is always something of a question mark but works say ready. Main danger.
Roll Hennessy Roll...Solid 5-4-0-1 record, first three were at second-string tracks but win here in G3 last time confirmed his talent. Two-turns is a question mark.
Coax Kid.

Turf Paradise: Arizona Juv

Siberland 1-5
Jimmy O 7-2
Deputy Doc 8-1

Wager: $5 W on Siberland.
Collected $6.50 on the W (2.60).
...$4 exacta box top two.
Collected $12.00 on the ex box ($6.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $10.30 on the tri box ($20.60/$2).

Siberland...Last two were a couple of monster wins in SoCal -- albeit against Cal-breds, but this bunch doesn't look much tougher.
Jimmy O...Take out the G3 and the turf try and this one is pretty consistent. Has faced the likes of Vindication and Roll Hennessy Roll. No such competitors in here.
Deputy Doc...Minor stakes win in latest tabs him as best of the hometown boys.
Moody Slew.
