Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

The hot streak we've been on since the beginning of November continues. Another nice ROI of 33% on the afternoon.

Three winners in eleven races (Fair Grounds, $2.80, 3.40; Hollywood, $7.00). There were also a handful of gimmicks -- capped by the upset triple box ($698.20/$2) in the Starlet with our fourth pick winning at 30-1. It's also worth noting that although we don't play superfecta's our top four completed three of those gimmicks Saturday. Only two were during races which offered the wager however (Calder, $535.40/$2; Fair Grounds, $139.20/$2).

So again, it was another gratifying afternoon...

WAGERED: $468.00
COLLECTED: $620.65

Aqueduct: Garland of Roses

Dat You Miz Blue 9-5
Xtra Heat 3-5
Belle Artiste 10-1

Bonefide Reason scratched.

Wager: $5 exacta Xtra Heat over Dat You Miz Blue.
Ran 2/1.
...$2 exacta key Xtra Heat over next three, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2/1-3-4.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
No tri offered after scratches.

Xtra Heat...Giving away a lot of weight and making first start back since Breeders' Cup -- and since being sold -- but it's hard to go past the champ in this field.
Dat You Miz Blue...Ran second in this event last year. Always in the hunt.
Bonefide Reason...Likes the track and the trip. Comes in with two win streak in tow. Should be ready to be heard from in stakes company.
Redhead Riot.
Belle Artiste.

Calder: Three Ring

Dakota Light 5-1
Never Fail 8-1
Bird Town 7-5

Wager: $5 WP on Bird Town.
Ran 3rd.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-8.
...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 3-4-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-8.

Bird Town...Zito's KY shipper looks to have enough potential to be heard from in stakes debut.
Makin Heat....3-3 at the trip and at this stage of the game that counts for something.
Lady Stars...Sizzling 5-4-1-0 career so far, but those were all sprints. Tested today.
Dakota Light.

Calder: What A Pleasure

Trust N Luck 5-2
Patriotic Flame 7-1
Super Frolic 9-5

White Cat ran 4th and completed the $535.40/$2 superfecta

Wager: $5 WP on Super Frolic.
Ran 3rd.
...$3 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $24.00 on the ex box ($48.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 1-3-4.
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $71.60 on the tri box ($142.20/$2).

Super Frolic...Wolfson 2YO might offer some value after losing last two. But two back he was behind the likes of Sky Mesa and last was a failed turf experiment. Was undefeated over this course in three prior starts including a similar stake in Sept.
White Cat...Third start back for McPeek runner and last was an OK sixth behind the very promising Soto.
Trust N Luck...Had a couple of hard luck starts -- all other tries were very good. Just behind top pick three back.
Patriotic Flame.

Fair Grounds: La Champ Lassie

Kool KJ 4-1
Little Miss Deb 9-1
Itsmybag 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Queen Kelly.
Ran 6th at 2-1.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-6.

Queen Kelly...5-2-2-1 so far including stakes win at the trip in latest.
Rubies N Roses...Second to top pick in last.
Itsmybag...Third in the same stake as the top two.
Kool KJ.

Fair Grounds: La Champ Juv

Meteor Impact 6-1
Wtt Ante 2-1
Lighter Knot 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Witt Ante.
Collected $9.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-4-10.

Witt Ante...Adds blinkers after just failing to keep undefeated streak alive in stake last time.
Lighter Knot...Maiden win indicates some talent and might be able to make the jump here in state-bred stake.
Constant Commotion...2-2, both by daylight. Outside post however will compromise chances.

Fair Grounds: La Champ Turf

One Brick Shy 6-1
Coach Rags 3-5
Mr Sulu 8-1

Wager: $5 WP on Coach Rags.
Collected $6.50 on the WP (xxx, 2.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $36.80 on the ex box ($36.80/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $18.40 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-6.

Coach Rags...Has a real affinity for the course and is coming off of a nice win -- albeit at another track and three months back. Trainer is pretty good of the layoff. But it's a concern, as is the loss in this event last year. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
One Brick Shy...Should be rolling late.
Cyrus...Returns to favored surface and last three dull finishes on dirt might help the value.
Nelson's Magic.

Fair Grounds: La Champ Ladies

Prized Amberpro 2-5
Wild Squaw 8-1
Autobesarah 13-1

Wager: $5 WP on Prized Amberpro.
Collected $12.50 on the WP (2.80, 2.20).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $8.70 on the ex box ($17.40/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $35.30 on the tri box ($70.60/$2).

Prized Amberpro...Won a similar state-bred stake last month.
Sunny Scarlet...Faltered last time behind top pick but it looks like it might be an aberration. Could bounce back to participate in the gimmicks.
Wild Squaw...Also put in a dull try in that same stake as the top two. Seems to prefer turf -- but have a hunch she might be competitive here.

Fair Grounds: La Champ Classic

Walk In The Snow 3-5
Prince Slew 6-1
Samlot 20-1

One Brick Shy scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Walk In The Snow.
Collected $13.75 on the WP (3.40, 2.10).
...$6 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$2 tri key Walk In The Snow over next three.
Ran 1/2-4.

Walk In The Snow...3YO has followed up second-place finish behind Essence of Dubai in Super Derby with two bang-up wins in state-bred stakes.
Oak Hall...Won this event last year and looks set up to do well again.
One Brick Shy...Finished second here in 2001. Was third behind top two in last.
Prince Slew.

Hollywood: Hollywood Starlet

Elloluv 30-1
Composure 1-5
Summer Wind Dancer 10-1

Wager: $5 WP on Composure.
Collected $5.50 on the WP (xxx, 2.20).
...$4 exacta Composure over Watching You.
Ran 2-4.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-4.
...$1 tri key Composure over next three.
Ran 2/1-3-4.
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $349.10 on the tri box ($698.20/$2).

Composure...First start back after Breeders' Cup is always a question mark, but Baffert filly still looks best here.
Watching You...Jumped from debut maiden win into stake and ran a decent second. Promising.
Summer Wind Dancer...Has been going well but moves into open company today.

Hollywood: Native Diver

Piensa Sonando 5-2
Fleetsteeet Dancer 19-1
Nose The Trade 27-1

Wager: $5 WP on Piensa Sonando.
Collected $29.00 on the WP (7.00, 4.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-5-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-5-7-8.

Piensa Sonando...Makes third start since arriving stateside and last was a much improved win.
Euchre...Frankel trainee looks like the one to beat. Ran second in this event last year and is coming out of a nice prep for this.
Grey Memo...Finished fourth here last year. Coming out of a couple of troubled trips.
Gentle Giant.

Golden Gate: Gold Rush

Spensive 6-5
Always Remember 25-1
Natural Balance 45-1

D's Bertrando scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on D's Bertrando.
...$10 quinella top two.
...$3 tri box top three.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-5-6.

D's Bertrando...Broke maiden in second try with a runaway performance. Two turns is a question mark but that last was too good to ignore.
Buddy Gil...Has a win at the trip which is a plus. Won a minor stake last time.
Spensive...SoCal shipper for Baffert/Krone could better this rating.
Quietly Quick.
