Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A little bit of action but overall it was a lot like last week with the scores lacking enough value to propel us into the plus column. Two events -- in NY and NJ -- were washed of the grass and therefore our plays were cancelled. Of the rest, three winners on top (Calder, 3.40/2.80/8.20). Plus a handful of mostly saver-type gimmicks. Our top four combined for five tri's in eleven plays but again, other than the nice $259.20/$2 tri at Santa Anita, they lacked the payoff punch we like to see.

Wagered: $558.00
Collected: $439.50

All turf plays are turf only

Belmont: Lawrence Realization H'cp

Race was moved off the turf onto sloppy main track
Fisher Pond 6-5
Irish Colonial 2-1
Extra Check 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Chiselling.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.
All plays cancelled -- off the turf.

Chiselling...Gets nod here off of two winning efforts a ten furlongs.which seem to indicate the distance might suit him.
Finality...A couple of things: Has been beaten both tries beyond nine furlongs -- once by the top pick; worst race this year was on less than firm turf...But neither of those knocks are strong enough to leave him out of the mix.
Irish Colonial...Got good this spring and summer and should be in the hunt.
Van Minister.

Keeneland: QE II

Riskaverse 7-1
Zenda 5-1
Lush Soldier 43-1

Wager: $5 WP on Wonder Again.
Faded to 5th after making a good looking move up the rail at the top of the lane.
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-6.
...$1 tri key Wonder Again over next three.
Ran 4/1-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-6-7.

Wonder Again...Has turned into a monster since switching to turf and comes in off of four straight wins including a G1 last time. Best until proven otherwise.
Megahertz...6-5-1-0 since coming stateside and moving into Frankel barn. The one to beat.
Riskaverse...Almost always in the mix and has been just behind top pick in last two.

Calder: Birdonthewire

Super Fuse 5-2
Hear No Evil 8-5
True Enough 2-1

Wager: $5 WP on True Enough.
Ran 3rd.
...$3 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-6.
...$1 exacta key True Enough over next three.
Ran 3/1-2-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $10.10 on the ex box ($20.20/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $23.70 on the tri box ($47.40/$2).

True Enough...Might get some value here on nice first-out maiden winner moving into stakes company -- but you only have to look as far as Beautiful Honer in Race 3 to see how much these youngsters can sometimes improve second time out of the box.
Little Swimmer...Seems to have gotten the hang of it over the last few. We get to see today if last-out Beyer was a fluke or not.
Hear No Evil...The wild-card. Looked great reeling off a 4-3-1-0 record here spring/summer, then flopped when moved north to face better. Could better this rating if able to recapture prior Florida form.
Super Fuse.

Calder: Cassidy

Hummel 9-1
Marnesia Light 36-1
Running Debate 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Beautiful Honor.
Ran 5th.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-7.
...$2 exacta key Beautiful Honor over next three.
Ran 5/1-4-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-4-5-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-5-7.

Beautiful Honor...Trainer's having a sensational meet and even though this one just broke maiden a repeat of that performance could make her a stakes winner today.
Lavender Lass...2-2 and both by daylight so she might be special.
Crafty Brat...Faltered in only stakes try but looks like she might prefer this trip.

Calder: Turf Sprint H'cp

Texas Glitter 3-5
Ghostly Numbers 8-1
Petrina Above 7-1

Wager: $4 W on Texas Glitter.
Collected $6.80 on the W ($3.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-4-6.

Texas Glitter...Ran into the superior Orientate two back then probably wasn't thrilled with the mud last time. Returns to preferred surface and probably has a class edge on these.
Flying Birdie...Looks like plenty of speed in here but we'll go with this one to go to the front and hold on for part.
Royal Lad...The layoff is a concern but have a feeling he might be ready.
Petrina Above.

Calder: Shocker T H'cp

Castlebrook 7-2
Banderia 2-1
Coolbythepool 6-5

Wager: $5 WP on Banderia.
Collected $9.00 on the WP (xxx, 3.60).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $17.70 on the ex box ($34.40/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $31.30 on the tri box ($62.60/$2).

Banderia...Wolfson runner likes the track and the trip but the layoff is a big concern as trainer isn't adept at pulling it off with this much benchtime. But nothing else is jumping off the page.
Multiplicity...Might try to steal it if able to get the jump early.
Castlebrook...Another that's been off too long to feel confident about -- but sure likes the track.

Calder: Spend A Buck H'cp

Pay the Preacher 4-1
Best of the Rest 6-5
Built Up 13-1

Wager: $5 WP on Sea of Tranquility.
Ran 4th.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 4-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $16.50 on the ex box ($33.00/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-6.

Sea of Tranquility...The two September sprints should set him up nicely for this.
High Ideal...Wolfson trainee makes third start off bench and last two have been bang-up.
Best of the Rest...Off since early summer but clearly capable against these if ready.
Pay The Preacher.

Calder: Oaks

Cellars Shiraz 3-2
Maliziosa 3-2
Something Ventured 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Maliziosa.
Collected $7.00 on the WP (xxx, 7.80).
...$4 exacta box top two.
Collected $20.80 on the ex box ($10.40/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $5.20 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $15.80 on the tri box ($31.60/$2).

Maliziosa...Late spring win streak seemed to indicate another potential star in the Mott barn. Flopped when moved into tougher company. But this might be a good spot for a rebound.
Cellars Shiraz...2-2 on the course. 8-4-3-0 on turf. The one to beat.
Spark Sept...Got a feeling this Euro-invader will be heard from in first US start.
Something Ventured.
Stormy Frolic.

Calder: Fla Stallion/My Dear Girl

Ivanavinalot 2-5
Star Go Blue 39-1
Dakota Light 9-2

Wager: $4 W on Ivnavinalot.
Collected $7.00 on the W ($2.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$3 exacta key Ivanavinalot over next three.
Ran 1/3-5-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-8.

Ivanavinalot...Only blemish on record caused by trouble at the break otherwise this one is clearly the best of this bunch.
Dakota Light...Second to top pick last time, no reason to change now.
Heavenly Miss...Let's see if she can improve a little second try around two turns.
Miss Delia.

Calder: Fla Stallion/In Reality

Trust N Luck 3-1
The Name's Bond 17-1
Patriotic Flame 46-1

Wager: $5 WP on Trust N Luck.
Collected $34.00 on the WP (8.20, 5.40).
...$4 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-6.
...$1 exacta box top three.
Ran 1-6-13.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-5-6-13.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-5-6-13.

Trust N Luck...Let's see what happens if he can get a clean break.
Lawbook...Brings a three race streak in but trying two turn for the first time so there's a question mark.
Wild Magic...This guy might like the distance and should be coming late.
Supah Blitz.

Calder: Calder Derby

Union Place 5-2
Miesque's Approval 8-5
The Judge Sez Who 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Miesque's Approval.
Collected $7.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.00).
...$4 exacta box top two.
Collected $38.40 on the ex box ($19.20/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $38.70 on the tri box ($77.40/$2).

Miesque's Approval...Like Mott's filly in the Oaks this one looks ready to rebound and fulfill some of the promise shown earlier in the year.
Union Place...Finished ahead of top pick last time and is usually in the hunt but doesn't like to win.
The Judge Sez Who...Hasn't been on the turf in awhile. Will be hard to keep out of the mix if able to carry dirt form onto the weeds.
Youghal Bay.

Santa Anita: Senator Ken Maddy H'cp

Rolly Polly 8-5
I'm The Business 5-1
Nanogram 16-1

Wager: $5 WP on I'm The Business.
Collected $12.50 on the WP (xxx, 5.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $13.10 on the ex box ($26.20/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $129.60 on the tri box ($259.20/$2).

I'm The Business...The question here is that sprinting doesn't seem to be her game -- but that nice second two back to Voodoo Dancer is hard to ignore coupled with the good win last time.
Magarita Midnight...4-4 on the green. Tested for class a little here.
Rolly Polly...Horse-for-course angle in play.

Meadowlands: Navajo Princess

Race moved off turf onto sloppy main track.
Forest Princess 5-2
Tap Dance 1-5
Festive Madam 3-1

Wager: $5 WP on Supposedly.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.
All plays cancelled -- off the turf.

Supposedly...8-3-3-1 on turf including a good win at the trip last time.
De Aar...Was second at twelve furlongs in April so the trip should present a problem. Trainer is showing good numbers in all pertinent categories.
Juile Jalouse.
New Economy.
