Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

A solid afternoon. Six winners on top in twelve races including 8-1 Mandy's Gold at Belmont and 7-1 Pure Prize at Turfway. Straight win betting on the twelve races would have cost $24 for a $2 win bet in each race and would have returned a healthy total of $53.40.

Also had a couple of cold exactas ($4.80/$2, Belmont; $21.00, Calder). A couple more exactas with our top two picks flip-flopped ($7.20, Turfway; $17.80, Turfway). In the Kentucky Cup Classic our top three picks combined for a generous $296.00/$2 triple. And our top four made up the $232.80/$2 super in the KC Juv. Plus there were a few more "saver" gimmicks among the day's plays.

And on a frustrating note -- it could have been a much nicer day -- ours ran 1-2-4 in three triples, one at Calder and two more at Turfway.

Overall a fun day with the plays as we wagered $464.00 and collected $546.90. A nice afternooon...

All turf plays are turf only

Belmont: Floral Park

Carson Hollow 1-2
Gold Mover 9-5
Shiny Band 8-1

Wager: $2 exacta box top two.
Collected $4.80 on the ex box ($4.80/$2).

...$4 exacta Carson Hollow over Gold Mover.
Collected $9.60 on the exacta.

Carson Hollow...Narrowest of defeats last time in the Test, arguably the best race of the Spa meet. Likes this track and trip and should resume winning ways.
Gold Mover...Defeated the incredible Xtra Heat two back. 'Nuff said.

Belmont: Belmont BC H'cp

Startac 2-1
Volponi 4-5
Dr Kashnikow 7-1

Wager: $8 exacta Volponi over El Gran Papa.
Ran 2/4.

...$2 exacta Volponi over Startac.
Ran 2/1.

Volponi...Blazed to an impressive score here three back in quickly run Poker. Followed up with a couple of good tries at the Spa against better than he faces today.
El Gran Papa...Bombed badly last time but he might reawaken with move back to turf.

Belmont: Jerome H'cp

Boston Common 2-1
Vinemeister 20-1
No Parole 6-1

Wager: $4 exacta Puzzlement over No Parole.
Ran 5/3.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-6.

...$1 tri Puzzlement over next three.
Ran 5/1-3-6.

...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-6.

Puzzlement...His alw win at the Sap was very impressive. Unable to duplicate that in the Travers but should go well with return to Belmont and addition of lasix.
No Parole...NY-bred clearly likes the track and might be ready to rumble with this kind.
Essayons...One of those that always seems on the verge of a breakthrough. Lightly raced so good things still might be in the making.
Boston Common.

Belmont: Ruffian H'cp

Mandy's Gold 8-1
You 2-1
Shine Again 9-2

Wager: $5 W on Mandy's Gold.
Collected $49.50 on the W ($19.80/$2).

...$4 exacta Mandy's Gold over Minister's Baby.
Ran 1/4.

...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-4.

...$2 exacta Mandy's Gold over Raging Fever.
Ran 1/5.

Mandy's Gold...Speedball is at the mercy of early pace but have a feeling she might be able to get an easy half in short field then outsprint them home.
Minister's Baby...Putting together a good season on the B-circuit but improving sort could be ready for this assignment.
Raging Fever.

Calder: Needles

Gemma's Star 2-1
Susie's Poker 7-2
Bog Hunter 33-1

Wager: $5 WP on Gemma's Star.
Collected $22.00 on the WP ($6.00, 2.80).

...$4 exacta box top two.
Collected $42.00 on the ex box ($21.00/$2).

Collected $10.50 on the ex box.

...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 1-2-4.

...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-8.

Gemma's Star...When one race shapes up much like the last, don't overthink! This one won the Blazing Sword this track and trip last time. Why not again?
Susie's Poker...Likewise this one was second to the top pick last time.
Bernard's Candy...3-2-1-0 lifetime record and highest last out Beyer means this one could better this rating. Only question mark is the distance.
Modest Lover.

Arlington: Pucker Up

Little Treasure 6-5
Cellars Shiraz 2-1
Kathy KD 23-1

Wager: $5 WP on Little Treasure.
Collected $19.00 on the WP ($4.60, 3.00).

Ran 1-10.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $6.20 on the ex box ($12.40/$2)>.

...$1 tri box top four.

Little Treasure...Euro import looked pretty solid in US debut. Perhaps a slight class edge on these.
Transition Time...Mott filly brings a three race streak into this, including a minor stake win here last time.
Cellars Shiraz...Florida-based runner seldom gives a bad effort.
Miss Marcia.

Turfway: Kentucky Cup Juv Fillies

Atlantic Ocean 7-2
Ruby's Reception 1-1
Jodys Deelite 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Ruby's Reception.
Collected $7.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.00).

...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.

...$2 exacta key Ruby's Reception over next two.
Ran 2/5-4.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-4-5-8.

...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-4-5-8.

Ruby's Reception...Two turns is a question mark -- but it is for most of these. Has the most experience of the bunch including a stakes win last time. Only blemish on record is a decent try against the boys three back.
Glorious Miss...Have some doubts about her ability to get the trip but Zito shipped her so we'll take a shot.
Westerly Breeze...Showed nice improvement in second start.
Devil At The Wire.

Turfway: Kentucky Cup Juv

Vindication 1-1
Private Gold 6-5
Tito's Beau 33-1

Ran 1-2-4.

...$1 exacta box top four.

Collected $30.00 on the tri box ($60.00/$2).

Private Gold...Has looked good in three starts so far including stakes win last time.
Vindication...2001 Spa sales topper has proven to be the real thing so far for Padua and Baffert. Tested for class today.
Captain Amour...Third to top pick last time. Might show some improvement if able to stay trouble-free.
Tito's Beau.

Turfway: Turfway BC

Trip 3-2
Mystic Lady 5-2
Red n'Gold 38-1

Wager: $5 WP on Mystic Lady.
Collected $8.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.40).

...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $17.80 on the exacta box.

...$1 tri box top three.
Ran 1-2-4.

...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Collected $8.90 on the ex box.

...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-2-4-9.

Mystic Lady...Looked like a budding superstar last year as a 3YO. Started this season just as well then went south in early summer. Decent try on the turf in comebacker might have set her up nicely for this.
Trip...Can't ignore the solid horse-for-course angle, including a win in this event last year.
Softly...Should be closing late.
Seven Four Seven.
Magic Storm.

Turfway: Kentucky Cup Sprint

Day Trader 3-1
Premier Performer 14-1
Ecstatic 3-1

Ran 6th.

...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $62.20 on the ex box ($124.40/$2).

...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-6-7.

Relentless Seller...Improving sort might surprise as lesser half of Baffert's "silent entry".
Sky Terrace...Usually in the hunt.
Day Trader...Could regain springtime form with return to the bluegrass state.
Premier Performer.

Turfway: Kentucky Cup Classic H'cp

Pure Prize 7-1
Dollar Bill 5-2
Hero's Tribute 8-1

Wager: $5 WP on Pure Prize.
Collected $60.50 on the WP ($16.80, 7.40).

Collected $21.90 on the ex box ($43.80/$2).

...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $148.00 on the tri box ($296.00/$2).

Pure Prize...Tantalizingly on the verge of something good -- just unable to get there so far. Shug doesn't venture out of NY often so we expect this guy to recapture fine form shown in Spa alw win two back.
Hero's Tribute...High expectations early on haven't been met but let's see what he can do in third start of form cycle.
Dollar Bill..."Hard Luck Harry" is reunited with Mr Day -- that's enough for us to keep out of the top spots -- but he's clearly capable of grabbing a share.

Meadowlands: Jersey Jumper

Chimichurri 3-5
Carson Cove 10-1
Hope for Love 2-1

Outta The Park scratched.

Wager: $4 exacta key Chimichurri over next two.
Ran 1/3-4.

...$1 tri key Chimichurri over next three.
...$1 tri box top four.
No triple wagering offered after scratches.

Chimichurri...Pletcher filly looks too good for these.
Traumatic...Overmatched against the very talented Awesome Humor last time. Capable of better against these.
Hope for Love...Also better suited to this event.
Outta The Park.
