36,328 attended. The weather continued sunny - but the humidity rolled in with temps in the 80s. There were some sprinkles during the evening - but never enough to dampen the spirits of post-racing revelers at the neighboring watering holes - or the crowds packing Caroline St downtown.
After R8 there was a nice ceremony honoring the late Allen Jerkens - it was well attended by friends and fanily in the winner's circle and Jerkens' son gave a nice speech that was appreciated by the fans.
Low Rollers Handicapping Contest: Register on the first floor of the grandstand by the lower Carousel before post time for the day's fifth race.
FIRST RACE
Malibu Preacher...Likely if able to repeat the latest effort.
Andalusite...Better than the latest ...I hope.
Wild Dynaformer...Fits here if able to get the trip.
Tobias.
SECOND RACE
Stay Tuned...Hard to go beyond.
Roman Revival...Looked good in debut but class is the question.
Bird Prince...Picks up Castellano for second try at this level.
Benny Is a Jet.
THIRD RACE
Uncle Sigh...Tempted to go against him off the layoff - but don't really see any attractive alternatives.
Drama King...Seems capable - if the last was an aberration.
Hunt's Road...Probably will need to step it up.
Colorado Grandslam.
FOURTH RACE
Unbridled Daddy...Decent debut and stretches for Pletcher. A weak nod in an inscrutable race.
Ekhtibaar...Potent team behind this one.
Tusk...Again - connections and breeding [Tapit on top] provide some slight intrigue.
Azar.
FIFTH RACE
Captain Moss...Solid maiden-breaker when moved to turf. Gets tested today.
Mission Driven...OK try vs similar last time.
Chunnel...Back to turf.
Mr Maybe.
SIXTH RACE
Theatric... Blueblood breeding and a sib, Regent's House, that won on debut. However, trainer not known for having them fire first-time out and other sibs weren
t as precocious.
Tap to It... Sib Smart N Single was 2-2 in brief career. Sib Don't Go Away Mad was 3,3,3,2,1 in first five.
Shayna Lady...Worked 10.0 before sale.
My Saving Grace.
Width.
SEVENTH RACE
Dreaming of Gold...Solid near-miss in a similar race here on 8/1.
Fundamental...Should fit well with these.
Big Family...Interesting coming out of a sprint.
Weekend Express.
EIGHTH RACE
Ack Naughty... Logical.
C d'Cat...Primed off of the two sprints.
Spuntastic...Might appreciate the stretchout.
Magical Miss.
NINTH RACE - G2 $200K Saratoga Special
Saratoga Mischief...Solid debut.
Holding Gold...Another good first-out winner - albeit on synthetic at Woodbine. But has worked well here.
Hammers Vision...Dirt is the question mark.
Exaggerator.
TENTH RACE
Rebelle...We liked her on 7/26 when she ran a good second in debut at 15-1 -- behind another Mott firster. Must get in off of AE list.
Grey Stark...Expensive yearling buy. Sib Bold and Ready ran 5,1 in first two.
Liberty Kitten...Firster from Pletcher/
Claire;s Joy.
Afternoon.
