No racing. Darkday.
No racing - no betting - but there was plenty of gambling going on Monday and Tuesday night at the annual yearling sales at the Fasig-Tipton pavilion just down the street from the track.
A couple of $1mil+ and a $2mil purchase highlighted the sale that was attended by a Who's Who of thoroughbred racing. Bob Baffett was in town and in attendance as well as West Point's Terry Finley and Tom Bellhouse, owner Dean Reeves [Mucho Macho Man], Aussie training legend Gai Waterhouse, Starlight's Jack Wolf, NYRA's Andy Serling, TVG's Paul LaDuca, Breeders' Cup's Peter Rotondo, jockey Corey Lanarie, Maggie Wolfendale and Tom Morley, Michael Dubb, WinStar's Elliott Walden trainers Nick Zito, Steve Asmussen, Ian Wilkes, Michael Matz, Cristophe Clement, Michael Dickinson, Jim Toner, Leah Gyarmati, Wes Ward, Dallas Stewart, Tony Dutrow, Ken McPeek, and Mark Hennig.
Irish-American Heritage Day.
FIRST RACE
Dye Fore...Bombed on the flat against the champ - but showed closing punch two back breaking maiden over the jumps - and there should be some "speed" to shoot at.
Alwaary... Might regret putting this one in the second slot. Has the "speed" to take them all the way - with "speed" in quotations because this is a jump event and there won't be the kind of pace you see on the flat. But, there are at least a couple of others who seem to run well on the lead. So the principle is the same: if they contend with each other early it could fall apart late. We'll see. But again, this runner who once faced G1 competition at Ascot and Newmarket might make me look silly for not having him on top.
Tubal... Finished in front of Alwaary two back.
Street Fight.
Plated.
SECOND RACE
Winning for Sarah...Might pick up the pieces.
Benny's Bullet...Won similar event two back with a lifetime best Beyer.

Whateveryouwant...Perhaps the one to beat if ready off the layoff.

Conquest Sarahstar...Worked 9.4 before sale. Sold for $650K. Sib Union Label ran 2,2,3,3,1 in first five.
