Yesterday

1-10. Winner in R5 [8.20]. Also: R2 ... DCx x 41.20; R4 .. CAx x 79.00; R9 ... CDx x 63.00. Oooph. Not much. It was a rough day - for everyone.

A solid weekday crowd of 29,927 attended - and, broken record time, they enjoyed another great day weather-wise: sunny and comfortable. The neighboring watering holes had their usual SRO crowds right after the races through the 9 or 10pm hour - while downtown was a perhaps a little quiet - at least relatively speaking for an August Friday night.

Today

Whitney coverage - NBC, 5-6pm ET.

FIRST RACE
Cease...Stakes winner bring some back class and gets class relief.
Mail...Chad Brown trainee takes a notable drop.
Barrister Jim...Have to believe he's better than the latest - and brings speed to the mix.
Looking Cool.

SECOND RACE
Conquest Windycity...Expensive 2YO purchase. Worked 21.4 before that sale. That doesn't necessarily translate to two turns on te grass in debut - but we'll see...
Matt King Coal...Worked 10.0 before attracting a quarter mil at 2YO sale. Sibs show some precociousness.
Mighty Mo...Pletcher trainee worked 21.2 before sale.
Deeply Undervalued.
Monster Bea.

THIRD RACE
Economic Model...Chad firster working well for debut. Sib Jimmy Simms 2,2,4,1 in first four.
Smart Moon...Cost $500K at auction. Malibu Moon on top.
Deserved...Mott firster has a little bit of breeding.
Set the Trappe.

FOURTH RACE - $100Kure
Reload...Could be primed in third start back.
Vyjack...In front of top pick last time.
Charming Kitten...Nice win in seasonal debut.
Under Control.

FIFTH RACE
Lookarondcorners... Already first under the line - but DQd in debut. Next was a solid second. Seems the one to beat in a difficult race to have s strong opinion on.
Zennor...Seemed to improve on turf.
Thamaan...Had a sib Thamaan started career running 4,2 in Europe - came to US and ran 3,1.
Same As.
Take Cover.

SIXTH RACE
Ocean Knight...Might need one on the comeback - but showed early promise.
Erik the Red...Seems in good form and might add some value here.
Havana...Another that flashed early promise - comeback wasn't as good, but eligible to improve.
Juba.

SEVENTH RACE - $100K De La Rose
Daring Kathy...Seems in good form.
J Wonder...Improving numbers - and eligible for a better finish with the move out of G1 company.
Stellar Path...Improving numbers.
Token of Love.

EIGHTH RACE - G1 $500K Test
Cavorting... Comes down to whether or not we believe the last number - I will.
By the Moon...Flatter by the G1 win earlier in the meet by Curalina.
Wonder Gal...By knocking heads with the players in the division and typically in the hunt.
Take Charge Brandi.

NINTH RACE - G1 $1.25mil Whitney
Tonalist...Slight nod in a very contentious edition of this race. Might be primed off of the second in the G2 Suburban Hcp where jock John Velazquez was critical of his ride.
Noble Bird...Has been rounding to top class form.
Lea...Just behind Noble Bird last time - and always seems to fire.
Honor Code.

TENTH RACE - G3 $200K Waya
Chat...Augustin/Sheppard runner - so I can't resist. Won here last summer.
Cat's Claw... Another Sheppard trainee - and won this race last year at 13-1 -- but oooph! -- I used the other Sheppard runner that day! Will history repeat?
Danza Cavallo...Seems solid on the numbers.
Goldy Espony.

ELEVENTH RACE
Majestic Bloom...Solid win this track and trip in debut effort here last summer. Followed with an ambitious stakes. Seasonal debut today and might come back with some added maturity.
Bella Kateri...Looks like the one to beat.
Full Tap...Improved on turf.
Hillaryinthehouse.
Blue Beryl.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
