Yesterday

2-11. Winners in the 8th [$3.60] and 11th [$6.00]. Cold exacta in the 8th [$6.90/$2].

The disappointment of the day was not getting our Sheppard Special across in the 2nd. 14-1 Piquant made what looked like a sure winning move in the stretch but just could not outlast the 5-2 favorite - and our second selection in the race - Self Control. A $30 winner would have helped our totals here on the page - and would also have helped our personal wallet with exactas and picks. But the wallet still managed to come out OK with the $11 place price and the $96.00 reverse exacta. Would have preferred it the other way though.

Also, in the short five-betting-interest 3rd our second over third selections provided a very generous $67.00 exacta with our top pick completing the $111.00 tri.

12,062 attended. The weather could probably have been described as partly cloudly. Some droplets of rain fell late in the card - but it was never even enough to call it a real 'sprinkle'.

Today

Twilight racing: 2:30pm post time

FIRST RACE
Temecula Creek...Stakes-winning winner of ten races drops in for a tag.
Sunrise Smarty...Lead early before fading in G1 Carter. Off since but looks like a good spot for the return.
Starforaday...A good second behind Dark Thunder at this condition two back - and Dark Thunder won here yesterday, as part of a four-race win-streak.
City Cool.

SECOND RACE - Gold Rose $75K
Jaw Crusher...Willing to take a shot that he'll improve in the second career start.
Bay Park Boy...The one to beat off of the debut win - but that was on a 'muddy' track.
Zow...Pletcher/Repole runner could come back running.
The Prize fighter.

THIRD RACE - Distorted Humor $75K
Wine Police...Probably needs to step it up just a little -but has two nice wins when outside of graded stakes company.
Chipshot...Uncouple barnmate of top pick need only repeat last to take this.
Higher Court...Talented and on the improve. Turf-to-dirt today.

FOURTH RACE
Landlubber...By win-early sire. Got some good education in off-turf sprint. Now moves to grass. Winner last time came back to win a stake here yesterday.
Joy Rising...Used this one on top on 8/17. Worked 10.1 before 2YO sale. Dominguez sticks - so will we despite the debut dud.
Ladywell Court...Fourth in a field of ten in first start. Might improve on the stretchout.
Stock Fund.

FIFTH RACE
Politicallycorrect...Chased this horse through a number of scratches earlier in the meet. Had him in our second spot last time. Intrigued if they actually do run him back in less than a week.
Speightscity...Like the top pick we used him in our mix in his debut. Ran OK - might benefit from that start.
Our Midnight Run...Similar idea to the top pair.
Raconteur.

SIXTH RACE
Australis Princess...If she sneaks away from River Fancy early she might be tough to reel in.
Ms Stilleto...Just missed in a similar race last time.
River Fancy...The other with some speed in here.
Ba Ba's Bunch.

SEVENTH RACE
Petey Cramer...Behind repeat winner One Note Samba in first try in this condition at the beginning of the meet. Should go well today.
All Class...Two best races are clearly on turf. Might be one of those that can blow through this condition in first try.
Hysterical Cat...Speed and fade to finish second in a similar race here on 8/13.
Isn'tlovejustgrand.

EIGHTH RACE - Riskaverse $75K
Divalarious...Done little wrong in three starts. Improved and improving on turf. Brown and Castellano to boot.
Starformer...Had some trouble but still ran well in US debut.
Ruthenia...Suspect she'll run well here.
Elusive Pearl.

NINTH RACE
Quantock...Needs to step it up - but a potential Sheppard Special.
Virtuously...Seems to have improved a bit since moving to turf.
An Absolute Ten...Lightly-raced and could be primed off of the brief layoff.
Storm Palm.

TENTH RACE
Monzante...Returns quickly off of the claim and have to believe he's better than the latest effort.
Short Shrift...Used him on top in the last two and won't be shocked if he runs well again today.
Midnite Silver...AE list. Numbers put him in the thick of this.
Monastir.
Red Leader.
Storm Island.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
