Yesterday

6[7]-10. Wow - crazy-good day considering the weather and surface changes. It was just one of the days where often the best looked like the best regardless of surface - so our dirt picks remained much the same as they were on turf. And that's the way it played out often during the afternoon when the races were switched to the main track. Only the featured 4th race stayed on the turf.

We note above 6[7]-10 in our winners-on-top notation - because a blunder cost us one... Unfortunately, in the 6th we forgot to write 'same plus' in our dirt selection spot - and -- even though longtime readers might have caught on given our plays the rest of the day - and the fact that subsequently only two horses were listed - we can't really take credit for the win there. Our program notes are below -- but we were the only ones holding the program. Program notes same as dirts picks SAR R6 8/21/11

Doh! But, winners in the 1st [$7.20], 2nd [$5.80], 3rd [$4.10], 5th [$5.00], 6th [$11.00], 8th [$5.40], 9th [$11.20].

Given all of those winners we didn't score as many of the vertical gimmicks as we might have liked - but there were cold exactas in the 2nd [$13.20/$2] and 5th [$13.20]. Plus a bushel basket full of the horizontal type plays.

Attendance was 50,870 - which was inflated by the tote bag giveaway. But there was a good crowd onhand. They suffered through some wacky weather - with a torrential downpour at noontime. Then sun. Then another biblical-like storm later in the card - followed by more sun!

Lovely Lil...There is some speed in here - so we'd like to see this one stalk up close and get first jump.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
