Don't forget to check out the Challenge page where we started the month with a mythical $1000 bankroll and attempt to increase that amount as the Saratoga season continues.

Yesterday

2-10. Winners in the 3rd [$4.60] and 6th [$8.60]. Also, a reverse exacta in the 5th [$35.80/$2] with our "D" selection completing the tri [$253.00].

Anther two-win day - and that just doesn't cut it over the long haul. We've gone icy over the last half of the meet as far as winners-on-top - but we take some solace in the fact that we aren't alone among the public handicappers. The last two or three weeks have been a struggle for many.

We thought it was a lazy, hazy, plenty-of-elbow-romm day here on Monday - but that was really the case on Wednesday as a meet-low 8,941 attended. The weather continued to be slightly unseasonable with mid-summer heat and humidity. Plenty of sun.

Today

$100K guaranteed late P4.
Salute to the military - with vets and military getting free admission.

FIRST RACE
Lead Us Not...Sheppard has been so dominant in the jump races here this year it's foolhardy to go against.
Moon Dolly...Probably better than she showed last time.
All Together/Straight To It...Neither inspires total confidence - but in a little bit of a wacky field they at least have shown some life on occasion.
Riddle.

SECOND RACE
Trippi's Tiger...Bred to win early and while the trainer is not showing good stats in that category it was something he once did well.
Rules of Civility...On the other hand, McPeek's trainees are typically ready to fire.
Halo Doctor Joe/Joes Blazing Aaron...And the same goes for Wesley Ward. These two both have a race under their belts and are eligible to improve.
All For Peace.

THIRD RACE
Healthy Debate...Undefeated in 2010 and looks like a good fit here.
Every Little Thing...A good second in a somewhat similar race here last time.
Zippy Larry...Beaten fave in a similar event last time. Can do better today.
Sudden Silver.
Wall of Worry.

FOURTH RACE - Riskaverse $70K
House of Grace...Very lightly-raced 3YO from Godolphin showed some real promise last year and really has only tossed in one dud - which, for better or worse, was right here in her latest. Expect better today against lesser company and in the third start of 2010.
Snow Top Mountain...Has yet to miss an exacta in six starts.
Senada...Has a nice closing kick.
Awesome Maria.

FIFTH RACE
Feels Good...Win-early breeding. Win-early trainer.
Skips Prospect...Uncouple barnmate to top pick also has some OK breeding.
English Ivy...Nice turf work last Friday attracts attention.
Floating Alone.

SIXTH RACE
Emerald Beach...We're hanging our hat on this potential Sheppard Special. Over the years this has been the scenario - from the Augustin Stable and shipping on off of some only OK efforts in the mid-Atlantic. These are the kinds of Specials that have paid off over the years. We've got our fingers crossed.
Dance Pass...Been knocking at the door.
Dyani...A winner over the course and at the trip.
Sweet Tune.

SEVENTH RACE
City Cool...More of that win-early breeding/win-early trainer combo angle at work.
Technique...With Speightstown on top this one is likely to win sooner rather than later and should benefit from the first-start education.
High Plains...Could Sheppard produce a mid-card double? This one is bred to go.
It's Truly Ahvee.
Modest.

EIGHTH RACE
Platinumplus...Tagg has been perhaps a little bit cold at the meet and this guy is an in-and-outer - but a repeat of the latest puts her right there.
Double Dinghy Day...Should be rolling late.
Shehashighhopes...Nice win here last time - against slightly better.
Lovely Promise.

NINTH RACE - Riskaverse $70K
Lisa's Booby Trap...Will certainly be the sentimental fave after having received all kinds of PR based on her and her trainer's rags-to-riches type of story. Trying turf here - but we'll rate her best until beaten.
Khancord Kid...Fourth-place finish in the G2 Lake George might prove to be better than it looks.
Queen of the Creek...Might be interesting if she tries the 'catch me if you can' strategy again.
Sea Road.

TENTH RACE
Mazara Del Vallo...Seems like a fairly quick turn around in this day and age [less than two weeks], so perhaps the first out was just for some education. Now moves to turf for Mott.
Theresmyeverything...OK debut on the synthetics at Arlington.
Bigger is Better...The breeding says 'yes' - the trainer less so, he doesn't show big number first out of the box.
Local Legacy.
Rudy Rudy Rudy.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
