Yesterday

0-10. One of the modest goals each year is to get through the meet without firing on oh-fer. Well, we made well past halfway - but we were stymied on sloppy Sunday. A steady rain that began well before dawn and continued throughout the day sent all turf racing to the main track and created a difficult handicapping puzzle all around.

Otherwise, a B-A exacta in the 2nd [$24.80/$2]. Scenario in the 3rd [$10.60]. Slim pickin's.

Announced attendance was 45,171 - but, safe to say, the true figure was significantly lower. The number was bumped up by 'spinners' chasing the ultra-appropriate umbrella giveaway. But the cool, wet weather left the backyard near empty.

Today

Rain continued overnight into the morning and it was announced on Sunday that all races would be off the turf on Monday. There is a $47K P6 carryover.

FIRST RACE
Bernie's Pal...Won an off-the-turfer here on 7/26. Could be the one to catch.
Spirit of Rose...Third start of the season. First two of 2010 were on turf but has gone well on dirt in the past.
Catchapenny K...Can't ignore the MTO entrant.
Bobity Boo.

SECOND RACE
Sea of Liquidity...Connections get their wish with this MTO'er. Has run well against better and should be a cozy fit with these.
Black Pen...Also MTO. Also taking a drop.
Ready's Vision...The breeding and the 8/9 work say he might be OK on the main track.
Papaw Bodie.
Arrr Pirates Booty.

THIRD RACE
Shaker Lakes...Should be interesting finding some class relief here.
Forever Tango...Has some early foot which might be dangerous over the surface today.
Karen's Joy...An OK third in a similar event here last time.
Royalstraightflush.
Alwaysinmydreams.

FOURTH RACE
Wicked Diva...A repeat of the latest will take this - but has been off the better part of two months and tries the off-going for the first time.
Starjetta...Took a turf race here most recently but went well on dirt prior.
Two Moons...More successful on dirt than turf so the move might help.
Cody Samora.
Big Brownie.

FIFTH RACE
That's Rich...Huge win in a similar event going first-out for Dutrow last time. Tough if able to repeat.
Stormin Bolt...Speed from the rail - could be dangerous if able to go well in the off-going.
Vose the Host...Undefeated in two starts including a maiden-breaker in the mud. Might rate him higher but the trainer is on an oh-fer at the meet.
Leap Day.

SIXTH RACE
Rock Hall Honey...MTO. Looks like the one to catch.
Sorority Sister...MTO. An uninspiring fourth in a similar off-turf event last time.
Speed Dating...Third in a similar event last time - and won on a sloppy track three back.
Storm Gal.
Dana's Bell.
Sugar Trade.
First Flute.

SEVENTH RACE - Union Ave $70K
La Concerto...Has won half of her lifetime starts and has a good wet-track record.
Meese Rocks...Third start off the layoff and the first two were good. Has a wet track win on the resume.
Gold for the Queen...Scratched from F'Lakes stake for this spot. Won on this track last summer.
City Broad.

EIGHTH RACE - Bennington $70K
Aegean...A G3 winner last year - she seems improved in her last two and dirt won't be a problem.
Rose Catherine...Might prove tough if they elect to run on the main.
Decelerator...Another that was a nice stakes performer last year. Last couple haven't been so good - but a rebound to prior form wouldn't be a shock - especially with the move to the main track here.
Ready to Sing.
Hilda's Passion.
Spiteful Gypsy.

NINTH RACE
Clear Faith...Trainer's shooting blanks at the meet - but with limited starts. Can't ignore the big wet-track win by this guy three back.
Stealth Missile...Not quite sure what to make of this one. Two duds most recently - but on wet tracks. But number previously were good enough - and included good off-track tries.
El Real Madrid...Dangerous runner from the Dutrow barn is clearly capable here.
Reflect Times.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
