Yesterday

No racing.

Today

Day One of the 40-day extended meet.

(You can review each of the previous seasons' totals here: 2009... 2008... 2007... 2006... 2005... 2004 ... 2003.)

Free grandstand admission today. And the annual Hat's Off music festival will be taking place downtown Fri-Sat from 7-11pm. Free music up and down Broadway.

FIRST RACE
Kuggerand...Beyer figure jumped up nicely in first start as a 3YO. Now comes back a couple of months later and might be ready to pop.
Seattle Mission...Likely fave would be no surprise to win - but might be developing a case of second-itis. We'll see...
Judge Well...Third start of the season. Lone Saratoga start produced this one's top Beyer fig. Dominguez rides. Hmmm.
Sir Dunstan.
On dirt: Hitting the Note, Steal the Shot, Seattle Mission, Monastir.

SECOND RACE
Kathern's Kitten...Showed a little bit of life in debut. Now gets the surface she was pointed at. Has some breeding to indicate she'll contend.
Home Rule...Should be heard from late.
Holy Place...Pletcher runner was a decent third in first start - behind a next-out winner.
Simply Carina.
Flourish.
On dirt: Remark, Gold Collection, Flourish, Neenie's House.

THIRD RACE
Bonavento...3YO debut was promising and should contend if able to repeat or - better yet - improve.
Aspire...G1-placed as a 2YO.
Mad for Smarty...Gained some experience against winners last time.
Bank Merger.

FOURTH RACE
Cozy Lion...Class-drop either makes him the one to beat - or raises red flags. We'll hope for the former.
Morethan Fourhours...Been knocking on the door this year - but must contend with outside post.
Simple Kind of Man...Up from Louisiana. He should fit with these.
Sharif Al Medina.
On dirt: Great Crusade, Chef Eric, Tar Beach, Cozy Lion, Budget.

FIFTH RACE
City Train...Ships in to take on NY-breds for the first time - and to test the turf. Hard to ignore that eye-popping grass work on 7/19.
Roderick...Beyer have improved in every start - including the latest which was the first try on grass and at a distance.
Shipping News...We'll be playing around with this guy at the expected big odds. The trainer is crafty and we just have a sneaking suspicion this guy is better than that debut flop.
Beth's Kitten.
Whateverittakes.
On dirt: City Train, Whateverittakes, Roderick, Ponte Vecchio.

SIXTH RACE
Dantastic...Among a few in here that are taking suspicious drops. We're looking for this one to rebound to the good form shown in the seasonal debut -- but admittedly, it's an iffy proposition.
Unaccountable...Another dropper. Hasn't missed the exacta in last nine starts - but hasn't raced since January.
Stream of Gold...And this guy is a graded-stakes winner being offered for $20K. June race for $32K might indicate that the 9YO has lost more than a step - but owner is never afraid to drop into a spot to win.
King Carter.
On dirt: African Diamond, Stopbluffing, Stealth Missile, King Carter, Web Gem.

SEVENTH RACE
Malibu Cougar...Precociously-bred top and bottom. Win-early trainer. Worked in 10.2 before 2YO sale. Things to like.
Heavenly Pride...Also nicely bred. Could be interesting moving into this spot off of the synthetic works.
Playing Pirates...Excuse the troubled debut and expect better today.
With the Current.

EIGHTH RACE - James Marvin $75K
Cool Coal Man...Zito's horses are often enigmas -- firing big one day, not so much another day. But this guy ran huge in a small stake here last summer - so we'll hope for a repeat.
Vineyard Haven...Likely to take plenty of action off of the solid career -- but this very lightly-raced 4YO has been off since November and seems worth taking a little bit of a shot against.
Half Metal Jacket...Only flop this year was in stakes company - so he has something to prove here.
Friesan Fire.

NINTH RACE - Schuylerville G3 $100K
Final Mesa...Already a two-time stakes winner. Seems much more interesting than couple mate - but only one will run. We'll lean in this direction if she goes.
Let's Get Fiscal...Debut win lived up to the promise shown when she worked 10.1 before 2YO sale.
Stopspendingmaria...Benefitted from the first-out education and broke maiden convincingly in follow-up. Could be the one to catch form the rail.
Le Mi Geaux.

TENTH RACE

In Just We Trust...Pletcher class-dropper could either run away with this - or run up the track.
Adams Circle...His two best races were at claiming prices just slightly higher than this.
Custers Last Stand...Should be a good fit here.
Insightful.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way [in other words, both halves are named]. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed [rather than the other half of the entry] in event of a scratch.
