by Seth Merrow

Turf wagers are turf only

Best Bets

Keeneland: Race 4, exacta box, Yay Go Me/Portend/Apple Charlotte.
Keeneland: Race 9, exacta box, Gozzip Girl/Miss World.
Calder: Race 8, Providanza.
Calder: Race 8, exacta box, Providanza/Royal Card/Proud Osceola.

Keeneland: Perryville G3 $150K

Warrior's Reward...Was kind of bouncing around the second-string of the 3YO division for most of the year. Cutback to sprint today -- but note the lifetime best Beyer was at this trip.
Keechi Bullet...Has to be better than last time.
El Brujo...Fired a lifetime best Beyer in winning a G3 last time.
His Greatness.

Wager: $5 WP on Warrior's Reward.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Keeneland: QEII G1 $500K

Gozzip Girl...Trouble was too great to overcome last time. Should rebound with a clean trip.
Miss World...Improved and improving in 2009.
Lady Shakespeare...Only one blemish on the 2009 record -- and that was on this track. But that was earlier this year -- she's better now. Dangerous.
Shared Account.

Wager: $5 W on Gozzip Girl.
...$5 exacta box top two.
...$2 exacta box top three.
...$1 tri box top four.

Far Hills: Grand National Hurdle $250K

Arcadius...Been running well since late spring.
Three Carat...Could be ready with one under the belt after a long layoff.
Sermon of Love...The runner that provided jock Hodson with her flat win at Saratoga - but he's even more of a player over the jumps.
Sweet Shani.

Wager: $5 WP on Arcadius.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Calder: My Dear Girl$400K

Sweetlalabye...Look for improvement in second try around two turns.
Joanie's Catch...On the other hand, she took to two turns swimmingly, beating the top pick last time.
Winsockie...Liked the stretchout last time. Or was it the turf? We'll know more today.
Australis Princess.

Wager: $5 WP on Sweetlalabye.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Calder: Calder Oaks $75K

Providanza...Might have a slight class-edge on these.
Royal Card...Certainly looks talented enough to compete for the top spot -- but, like others in here, is trying turf for the first time.
Proud Osceola...Should be rolling late.
Chary.

Wager: $5 WP on Providanza.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Calder: In Reality $400K

Bim Bam...Liked the stretchout last time.
Jackson Bend...Beat top pick in latest but has yet to go the distance.
Thank U Philippe...Beaten fave last time but should benefit from the two-turn/stakes experience.
Allez Reef.

Wager: $5 WP on Bim Bam.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Calder: Calder Derby G3 $100K

Sal the Barber...Beyers certainly say he'll compete here -- but record seems to indicate he's still kind of trying to figure it all out. Tread lightly.
Pound Foolish...Has some closing kick on turf.
Grand Cash...Should appreciate the return to grass.
Regis.

Wager: $5 WP on Sal the Barber.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Calder: Spend A Buck G3 $100K

Motovato...Should appreciate the return to dirt.
Mambo Meister...Recent record seems to indicate turf -- but he's actually won more often on dirt.
Dream Maestro...Might be primed coming out of two sprints.
Imawildcandcrazyguy.

Wager: $5 WP on Motovato.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Woodbine: Nearctic G2 $500K

Chamberlain Bridge...Seems in good form and ran huge at Philly last time. Gomez onboard.
Jungle Wave...Behind Ventura last time. Should appreciate the cutback.
Field Commission...Capable on best.
Storm Treasure.
Little Nick.

Wager: $5 WP on Chamberlain Bridge.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.

Woodbine: EP Taylor G1 $1mil

Rainbow View...Been facing some of the best in her division in Europe.
Treat Gently...Competitive in Europe last year. Won 2009 debut in first US start -- but that's the only start this season which is a concern.
Salve Germania...Won a Saratoga G2 in her lone stateside race.
Princess Haya.

Wager: $5 WP on Rainbow View.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Woodbine: Canadian International G1 $2mil

Quijano...Nice just-miss effort in prep for this. Only concern is that he did the same thing last year and then had trouble in this race. Let's hope for better in 2009.
Just as Well...Sheppard trainee was second behind Gio Ponti in the G1 Arlington Million and then moved up to first in the G1 prep for this. Obviously capable.
Champs Elysees...Looking at the almost $2mil bankroll it's kind of hard to believe -- but this one has never quite lived up to his potential. Like the top pick he comes into this in similar fashion as last year where he had some trouble here.
Marsh Side.

Wager: $5 WP on Quijano.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Charles Town: W VA Breeders' Classic $500K

Russell Road...Clearly a successful horse-for-the-course.
Peaceful Bliss...What do we make of that gaudy Beyer last time? Tonight will tell whether it was truth or fiction.
Ghostly Thunder...Interesting on the stretchout.
Eastern Delite.

Wager: $5 WP on Russell Road.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Santa Anita/Oak Tree: Maddy Hcp G3 $100K

Tuscan Evening...Has run well this track and trip and should appreciate the cutback.
Reba Is Tops...In the exacta more often than not.
Mohegan Sky...Ships in for turf sprint specialist Rice.
Gotta Have Her.

Wager: $5 WP on Tuscan Evening.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.
