Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes
by Seth Merrow

It was kind of a hit-or-miss day -- but, happily, the 'hits' provded enough value to move us into profitability for the day. The shining examples on both ends of the spectrum: We called the $128.80/$2 tri cold in the TCA at Keeneland, while we needed a search party to find our selections a few races later at that track in the Breeders' Futurity. Overall though, a fun afternoon.

WAGERED: $480.00

Turf wagers are turf only

Ran 1-5-6-8.

Majestic Warrior...Debut was impressive and follow-up win in G1 Hopeful was even more so.
Ready's Image...Couldn't hold off the top pick last time -- but might prove tough to run down if unchallenged early.
War Pass...Gets tested today -- but could be this good.
Silver Edition.

Belmont: Frizette G1 $400K

Indian Blessing 3-5*
Backseat Rhythm 8-1

Indian Blessing...Impressed at Saratoga. Big step up -- both in class and distance, but working well, including that 1M drill on 9/22.
Armonk...Clearly the connections think a lot of this maiden. Already stakes-placed.
A Little Gem...Get to find out today if she's this good -- or she really likes Monmouth.
Sunday Holiday.

Belmont: Jamaica Hcp G2 $300K

Nobiz Like Shobiz 9-5*
Red Giant 3-1
Pays to Dream 20-1

Shamdinan...Euro-invader was solid in US debut taking the G1 Secretariat. Perhaps bounced a little in second start on this side of the pond. Could rebound with move back in against own age-group.
Nobiz Like Shobiz...Undefeated in two turf tries.
Red Giant...Hasn't missed an exacta since moving to grass.
Adagio.

Finger Lakes: NY Breeders' Futurity $269K

Mr Destiny.

Keeneland: TCA G3 $300K

Wild Gams 3-1
Sugar Swirl 9-2
Baroness Thatcher 2-1*

Wager: $5 WP on Wilds Gams.

Wild Gams...Good try at Presque Isle after taking the summer off. Closing style should go well here.
Sugar Swirl...Frankel filly should stalk and pounce.
Baroness Thatcher...Early speed is not the on this surface -- but sometimes it works and this filly won here last autumn.
Lady Belsara.

Keeneland: Phoenix G3 $250K

Off Duty 13-1
Rebellion 8-1

Ran 1-2-4-6.

Rebellion...Beyers have been improving with each US start. Going turf-to-Poly but has some winning experience over the surface in Europe.
Indian Chant...Just half a length shy of a 6-race win streak. Could be the toughest of the early speeds.
Connections...Likes the track and has a good closing kick.
Off Duty.

Quite a Bride 8-1

Lady of Venice...There should be some pace to shoot at and this one likes the track and trip.
Vacare...Could be rounding back into top form.
Quite a Bride...Dangerous if able to sneak away early -- or even stalk at a moderate pace.
Precious Kitten.

Keeneland: Breeders' Futurity G1 $500K

Ran 2-3-5-6.

Astronomer Royal...G1 winner in France this year from Aidan O'Brien.
Art Master...Scratched from last week's Kelso to await this spot. A repeat of the win in the G3 Poker this summer would make him very dangerous.
Shakis...Obvious contender -- just wonder if this is his best distance.
Cosmonaut.
