Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes
by Seth Merrow

Technical difficulties meant a delay in posting this page today -- but it went up shortly before 2pm ET, well before the races discussed below went to post. Apologies however for the delay.

Seven stakes on our C2C dance card this afternoon -- and they all look kind of interesting.

Turf wagers are turf only

Best Bets

Belmont, Race 8, Classic Campaign.
Finger Lakes, Race 8, French Transition.
Monmouth, Race 4, Spanish Breeze.
Delaware, Race 6, exacta box, Royal Highness/Safari Queen.
Delaware, Race 7, Smart Growth.
Hollywood, Race 1, Old Thamesian.
Hollywood, Race 4, Monte Bajo.

Belmont: Poker Hcp G3 $100K

Classic Campaign...Trainer and jock having a good season. This one ran well in Florida earlier this year and should go well off of a brief freshening.
Host...Pletcher trainee could be tough in second start back from Dubai.
Jet Propulsion...Looks like the one to catch.
Electric Light.
Yate's Black Cat.
Art Master.

Wager: $5 WP on Classic Campaign.
...$2 exacta box top two, sub next if scratch.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.

Finger Lakes: NY derby $150K

French Transition...Moved from care of Biancone to 81YO Frank Martin and promptly won first-out for new conditioner after disappointing while facing mostly open company earlier. Note the jock who tags along for an ungraded stake at F'Lakes. Could prove interesting.
Chief's Lake...Asmussen runner looked good winning first leg of Big Apple Triple -- but this is his first try around two turns.
Stunt Man...Typically in the hunt.
Good Prospect.

Wager: $5 WP on French Transition.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Monmouth: Bob Harding $60K

Drum Major...Graded stakes winner drops into small stake for seasonal debut.
Shake the Bank...Spent part of career as 'rabbit' for Better Talk Now -- but now goes as a single with plenty of early foot.
Big Prairie...Off for awhile but won four of last five. Tough if ready.
Ballonenostrikes.
Silent Roar.

Wager: $5 WP on Drum Major.
...$2 exacta box top two, sub next if scratch.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.

Monmouth: Long Branch BC $150K

First Defence...That May win seemed to indicate that this one has improved as a 3YO.
Crusader Rabbit...Looks to have turned the corner in last two and could be a good one.
Saratoga Lulaby...Exacta finishes in half of his career starts.
Get Serious.

Wager: $5 WP on First Defence.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 tri key First Defence over next three.

Delaware: RG Dick BCHcp $300K

Royal Highness...Has gotten better in each of three starts since arriving form Europe.
Safari Queen...Pletcher turfer rarely runs a poor race.
Palmilla/Omeya...Palmilla likes the track. Omeya contends on best effort.
Rosinka.

Wager: $5 WP on Royal Highness.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Delaware: Delaware Oaks G2 $500K

Cotton Blossom...G1 Acorn win was best yet. Regular pilot in to ride.
Winning Point...Lightly raced and promising.
Moon Catcher...Won prep for this in fine fashion.
High Heels.

Wager: $5 WP on Cotton Blossom.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 exacta box top four.
...$1 tri box top four.

Hollywood: Swaps G2 $350K

Desert Code...In a short field the speed might prove to be dangerous.
Tiago...If the pace does come back this one can benefit.
Albertus Maximus...Proven over the synthetic surface.
Awesome Gambler.

Wager: $5 WP on Desert Code.
...$2 exacta box top two.
...$1 tri key Desert Code over next three.
