Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

We lost one to that was moved off-turf, and that left us with a baker's dozen. Two winners on top in those thirteen events (Gulfstream, $7.40; Santa Anita, $8.80).

Just on of the day's where we got zonked. With our wagering template we need some of those gimmicks to come through and there were just too many today where someone snuck into the two-spot to kill our exactas. Chalk it up -- and move on...

WAGERED: $576.00

Liquor Cabinet...5YO missed the vast majority of last season but has three starts since returning and looks to be talented and improving.
Manchurian...Similar scenario to top pick. Improving for Pletcher. Beaten by top pick last time.
Evening Attire....Gallant old warrior certainly a contender in here.
Salic Law.

Great Seneca...3-3 and won a stake last time. The one to beat.
Sprinkle of Gold...Mass-invader bred to be quick and has done little wrong so far.
Ah Day.

Gulfstream: Honey Fox Hcp G3 $100K

Honey Ryder...Off since winning the G1 EP Taylor at Woodbine in October but Pletcher is superb off the bench.
Wend...Mott trainee was budding superstar last season but eventually faltered in a couple G1 tries. Undefeated this track and trip so a good spot for the comeback.
Ambitious Cat...Seldom out of the hunt.

Gulfstream: Richter Scale BC Sprint Champ Hcp G2 $200K

Mister Fotis 4-1
Sir Greeley 3-1
Universal Form 24-1

Wager: $5 WP on Judiths Wild Rush.

Collected $23.30 on the ex box ($46.60/$2).

Ran 1-2-4-7.

Judiths Wild Rush...Ran some big numbers sprinting last year and might be set for a good one after the nice third in G3 Deputy Minister.
Mister Fotis...The eye-popping Beyer figure two back is scary but Chavez gunned him that day that just hasn't been his style otherwise -- so that race looks a little flukey. But again, he's scary.
Silver Train...Clearly showed vast improvement after moving into Dutrow barn. First start back after winning G1 BC Sprint.
Sir Greeley.

Gulfstream: Swale G2 $150K

Sharp Humor 13-1

Ran 2-7-9-10.

Ran 2-7-9-10.

Noonmark...Got some education in debut and has blasted two big wins since. Steps up today but looks like a good fit in stakes company.
City Attraction...Wound up his 2YO season with best race yet and might still have some upside potential in 3YO debut.
Yes He's the Man...Undefeated youngster is also making his first 2005 start.

Gulfstream: Gulfstream Pk Hcp G2 $300K

Harlington 5-2
Contante 25-1

Ran 1-5-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-5-6-7.

Harlington...Showed early promise but was sent to the bench for an extended period. Now has a couple of starts under belt since return and could be ready to make noise in this division for Pletcher.
Funny Cide...Third start off layoff and stretches off of two one-turn races. Like the set-up.
Suave...Tossed in a real dud as the fave in G1 Donn. That one looked out of character, we'll give him another chance.
Andromeda's Hero.

Gulfstream: Very One Hcp G3 $100K

Olaya 6-5*
Noble Stella 3-1

Wager: $5 WP on Olaya.

Olaya...Euro-import 2-2 since arriving stateside and looks capable of continuing the streak here.
Noble Stella...Maybe a little bit inconsistent -- but fits on best.
Cotopaxi...Let's toss the off-the-turfer. Could be ready to pop a good one.
Moon Dazzle.

Gulfstream: Fountain of Youth G2 $300K

Collected $11.80 on the ex box ($23.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-4-10.

My Golden Song...Only four starts so far and it wouldn't be a big surprise if this one steps it up.
First Samurai...Might have a class edge and just run away from these -- but trying two turns for first time.
Great Point...Plenty of trouble lines but looks to be getting the hang of it.
Flashy Bull.

Tampa: Wayward Lass $60K

Tasha Sangue 46-1

Ran 2-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-8.

Phone the Diva...Set-up is interesting with a couple of turf races followed by a decent third in dirt sprint last time. This isn't the strongest bunch and this gal might be ready to run a big one.
Preach It...Looks like they'll have her to catch.
Julie's Prize...Off a long time but capable in here if ready.

Oaklawn: Spring Fever $50K

More Moonlight 11-1

...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-7.

Unbridled Sidney...Very speedy on grass. Works say ready and could be tough to catch on dirt as well.
True Tails...Should be in the battle right from the bell.
More Moonlight...Met a tough cookie last time to break streak over the track.
Lila Kay's Rose.

Santa Anita: Baldwin G3 $100K

Fast Parade 6-1
The Pharaoh 5-1
Da Stoops 2-5*

Race moved off turf.

To Sender...Probably needs to improve but with only three starts he has the upside potential.
Set Alight...Uncouple stablemate to top pick also looks to have plenty of potential.
Da Stoops...Solid on dirt in last couple. Be tough if form transfers to turf.
Within Reason.

Wager: $5 WP on To Sender.

Ran 1-3.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-5-8.

Latent Heat...Lacks seasoning but like the stretchout off of two sprints.
Brother Derek...Looking at last two this guy hardly seems vulnerable. Only early challenge might be from top pick and if that one isn't up to the challenge Derek might run away and hide.
Hawkinsville...Improving numbers in each start.

Santa Anita: Kilroe Mile Hcp G1 $300K

Milk It Mick 12-1
Aragorn 15-1
Chinese Dragon 25-1

Wager: $5 WP on Toasted.

Ran 2-9.
...$1 exacta box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-5-8-9.
...$1 tri box top four, sub next if scratch.
Ran 2-5-8-9.

Toasted...Showed promise as a 3YO then missed most of 4YO season. Now making third start back and could be ready to move forward and validate early promise.
Aragorn...Interesting to see if he comes back with some added maturity as a 4YO.
Buckland Manor...Tossed in a clunker last time but returns to turf and ran second in this race last year to the excellent Leroidesanimaux.

Santa Anita: Santa Anita Hcp G1 $1 mil

Magnum 17-1
Wilko 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Lava Man.

Ran 1-5.

Ran 1-4-5-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-5-7.

Lava Man...Win in latest seems to indicate he's returning to good form.
Giacomo...2005 Ky Derby winner was solid in defeat last time coming off of a long layoff. Should be tighter today.
Spellbinder...Going well since last fall.
High Limit.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed in event of a scratch.
Scratches listed in our results reflect only horses that were part of our selections, not necessarily all the horses that were scratched. Check official results for complete information.
