RESULTS Saturday, January 7, 2006 Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Three winners on top in eleven races (Gulfstream, $13.60; Laurel, $2.40; FG/LAD, $3.80). Top result among the plays was probably the Red Camelia at Fair Grounds/La Downs when our short-priced top pick ran second to a 7-1 who was part of our box. That helped jack up the exotic prices and made for a worthwhile tri.

Fagan's Legacy...Showed nice improvement through first three starts then had some trouble in G2 Remsen. Picks up Dominguez in the saddle and might be ready to rebound to prior good form.
Extra Bend...Made a successful move back to the dirt last time and looks to have turned the corner.
Trailling Twelve...Big improvement from first to second start. Goes MSW to stake but could be this good.

Dazzling Dr Cevin...This guy seemed to get good this fall and we've chased him through his last two -- not ready to give up just yet. Went OK to close for third two back after jock dropped whip. Dull last time but we'll hope that it was due to traffic trouble. Picks up Johnny V today and we'll hope he can help overcome the outside post.
Philanthropist...McGaughey/Phipps runner brings in a three-race streak, including a G3 last time. Should be promniently place throughout.
Seek Gold...Third start of layoff and might be ready to return to top form.

Gaff...Spent some time sprinting on turf in Europe but has definitely appreciated the home-cooking since returning stateside. Improved in each of last three starts and looks to fit here.
Sir Greeley...Been going well since end of Saratoga meet. He's a contender with best effort.
Pisgah...Put in thrtee big efforts at Delaware before going to te bench. Can be in the mix if able to come back firing.

West Virginia...Certainly not a win machine in 2005 and that's a concern. But adds blinkers and might control the pace in here.

Alumni Hall...Clearly likes Keeneland -- he's a little more iffy elsewhere.

Melanyhasthepapers...Has some early speed. Shown an affinity for this track.
