Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Three winners on top in eleven races (Gulfstream, $13.60; Laurel, $2.40; FG/LAD, $3.80). Top result among the plays was probably the Red Camelia at Fair Grounds/La Downs when our short-priced top pick ran second to a 7-1 who was part of our box. That helped jack up the exotic prices and made for a worthwhile tri.

Dazzling Dr Cevin...This guy seemed to get good this fall and we've chased him through his last two -- not ready to give up just yet. Went OK to close for third two back after jock dropped whip. Dull last time but we'll hope that it was due to traffic trouble. Picks up Johnny V today and we'll hope he can help overcome the outside post.
Philanthropist...McGaughey/Phipps runner brings in a three-race streak, including a G3 last time. Should be promniently place throughout.
Seek Gold...Third start of layoff and might be ready to return to top form.

Corinthian...Went from a decent try in a troubled debut to a nice win last time going similar trip at Aqueduct. Ready for this assigment if able to show any improvement this time.
In Summation...Experience counts and this one has been battled-tested in rich Florida Stallion series. Sports impressive 6-5-1-0 record.

Celestial Legend...Undefeated -- including two stakes. Seems a couple of steps faster than these.
Ten Halos...Went pretty well before taking a break and sometimes the layoff can really benefit these youngsters.
DD Night Star...Hasn't missed an exacta yet.
Princess Taormina.

Tampa: Minaret $60K

Beautiful Bets...Ships in from Ky and might have been facing better. Last win was July but this bunch could be to her liking.
Travelator...NY-bred 6YO has put together a successful sprinting stakes career. Another who fits well with this bunch.
Platinum Perfect...Off over two months -- and will have to work to get to the front from outside post.
Emerald Earrings.

Fair Grounds at Louisiana Downs: Pan Zareta Hcp $60K

Josh's Madelyn 4-5
Granny's Pride 5-2

Ran 1-2-4-6.

Josh's Madelyn...Closing style should suit in a race that looks to have some early speed. Let's hope her late move doesn't run out of room.
Granny's Pride...The big Beyer win last time might indicate she's a horse-for-course play.
Ghostly Gal...Not thrilled with the dud last time but can be in the mix if able to bounce back.
Missile Bay.

Our apologies: We inadvertently left out the remaining tow stakes from Fair Grounds @ La Downs when we originally posted. This update with the Red Camelia and New Orleans Hcp is posted shortly after 3pm ET -- well before post-time, but again, our apologies to folks who missed this info on the original post.

Our Love...Has plenty of early foot and likes this oval.
Nicks Nights...Seems to be rounding into top form.
Intractable...Should be rolling late.
Equestrian Girls.

Fair Grounds at Louisiana Downs: New Orleans Hcp G2 $00K

Brass Hat 5-2
Dixie Meister 32-1
Alumni Hall 2-1

Ran 1-3-4-7.

Ran 1-3-4-7.

West Virginia...Certainly not a win machine in 2005 and that's a concern. But adds blinkers and might control the pace in here.
Silver Axe...9YO is usually in the hunt -- mostly in minor stakes but has been heard from in graded events also.
Alumni Hall...Clearly likes Keeneland -- he's a little more iffy elsewhere.
Brass Hat.

Santa Anita: Santa Ysabel G3 $100K

Itty Bitty Pretty 9-2

Sabatini...Poor break but still went OK in first try around two turns. Expect better today.
Sweet Fourty...The turf-to-dirt move really sparked her to a good stakes-placng last time. Should go well again.
Itty Bitty Pretty...Has typically been in the mix each time so far.
Horse B With You.

Santa Anita: San Pasqual Hcp G2 $150K

High Limit 5-2
Buckland Manor 3-1
Spellbinder 8-1

...$1 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-6.

Bully Hayes...Seems to be on the improvement and just missed in a similar stake last time.
Buckland Manor...Might have a slight class edge on this bunch -- but there are some question marks. Has been turfing. Only one race since May. But we certainly can't discount.
Melanyhasthepapers...Has some early speed. Shown an affinity for this track.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed in event of a scratch.
Scratches listed in our results reflect only horses that were part of our selections, not necessarily all the horses that were scratched. Check official results for complete information.
