Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

We managed to break even on the win-end with three winners on top in six races (Aqueduct, $3.20; Churchill, $5.40, 3.40). We probably deserved to wind up in the black in that category but we were taken down at Hollywood in a controversial DQ. It was a double shot for us because we took a stand in that short-field with only a quinella play -- and ours ran 1-3 under the wire. But the stewards decided that the winner had impeded the 3rd place horse enough to cost him the place position. Therefore the DQ. In other words, if the show horse had gotten up for second there probably wouldn't have been a DQ -- and we would have grabbed another winner on top and our quinella in that race. The margin between second and third? The smallest of noses. Doh!

Just the kind of day it was...

Head-to-Head

Our Head-to-Head feature pits Coast-to-Coast's Seth Merrow against DRF's Weekend Warrior, Mike Watchmaker. Whenever the two columns make selections in the same race we'll tally the results for each.

11/26/2005

There was no Weekend Warrior published by DRF this week and so all totals remain the same...

Best Bets

Scored a 10% profit with our Best Bets. Nothing to brag about -- but winning is always preferred to losing...

Churchill, Race 8, Mythical Conquest... 7th at 7-5
Churchill, Race 9, French Park... WON (5.40, 3.00, 2.80).
Churchill, Race 11, Private Vow... WON (3.40, 2.40, 2.20).

Aqueduct: Demoiselle G2 $200K

Wonder Lady Anne L 10-1
Cinderella's Dream 9-5
Wait a While 3-1

Wager: $5 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.

Cinderella's Dream...Broke maiden two back then followed with a state-bred stakes win. Should dominate this short field by showing her early foot.
Better Now...Will be rolling late.

Aqueduct: Remsen G2 $200K

Bluegrass Cat 3-5
Flashy Bull 18-1
Parkhimonbroadway 12-1

Wager: $5 WP on Bluegrass Cat.

...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-6-7.

Bluegrass Cat...Should be set up well for this making third start off layoff and stretching out after two one-turn wins including the G3 Nashua last time.
Congo King...Ambitiously placed in Nashua last time and had some trouble. Expect better with the experience under his belt.
Parkhimonbroadway...NY-bred is battle-tested and fits with these.
Pegasusbystorm.

Aqueduct: Cigar Mile Hcp G1 $350K

Purge 25-1
Mass Media 9-1
Gygistar 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Host.
Ran 9th at 6-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 8-9.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-4-8-9.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-4-8-9.

Host...This one won a G1 two back and many thought he ran a big race in the BC Mile last time despite some trouble. The move to dirt is a concern but sometimes the best horse is the best horse.
Badge of Silver...Slowly but surely we're getting over our aversion for long layoff horses. Some 21st century trainer are turning those notions on their head. So even though this one has been off since June we have to include him coming out of the Frankel barn.
Gygistar...Faltered in BC Sprint but was having a solid season prior to that.
Silver Wagon.

Churchill: Golden Rod G2 $200K

French Park 8-5
She Says It Best 7-2
Lady Danza 15-1

Sabatini scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on French Park.

Collected $11.20 on the ex box ($22.40/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5.

French Park...Impressive winning the G3 Pocahantas in her second career start. Stretches to two turns in third start and should continue winning ways.
Sabatini...Closed from last to break maiden in debut. Will need to step it up here but they're always eligible to do that in their second start.
She Says It Best...Flopped in troubled BC Juvie Filly try but prior form includes a G2 stakes win.
Beau Dare.

Churchill: Dream Supreme Hcp $70K

Injustice 10-1
Savorthetime 7-2
Ten Carat Ruby 13-1

Ran 6th at 4-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-6-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-6-8.

Reunited...Absolutely solid 3YO beat older in a G3 last time. Has shown an affinity for this track in the past.
Savorthetime...Won this race last year and can go well again today -- and should offer some value off of flop last time.
Hide and Chic...Clearly better than latest attempt demonstrated.
Ten Carat Ruby.

Churchill: Kentucky Jockey Club G2 $200K

Private Vow 3-5
High Cotton 7-2
Hyte Regency 19-1

Wager: $5 WP on Private Vow.
Collected $14.50 on the WP (3.40, 2.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $5.30 on the ex box ($10.60/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5-6.

Private Vow...Brought a three-race streak into the BC Juvie -- then had equipment failure there. Working well and should rebound in here.
Catcominatcha...If you ignore the first try around two turns three starts back, this one has been progressing nicely. Won a one-turn G2 here last time and can be heard from again today.
High Cotton...Should be forwardly placed -- but might have some company early.
Great Point.

Hollywood: Real Quiet $100K

Genre 8-1
Kissin Knight 7-1
DQ - Bob and John 1-5

Bob and John finished first, was DQd to 3rd

Wager: $15 quinella top two.
Ran 2-3.

Bob and John...Might have needed last after a couple of months on the bench. Working well for Baffert and look best in here.
Kissin Knight...Showing steady improvement and goes turf-to-dirt.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed in event of a scratch.
Scratches listed in our results reflect only horses that were part of our selections, not necessarily all the horses that were scratched. Check official results for complete information.
