Best Bets

Breathed some life back into our Best Bets after struggling the past couple of weeks. Managed a decent 30% ROI...

Calder, Race 6, Bond Queen... Scratched.
Calder, Race 8, Special Report... 2nd at 5-2 (xxx, 4.40, 4.20).
Calder, Race 11, Bob's Proud Moment... 7th at 27-1.
Churchill, Race 5, Warrior Song... WON (4.60, 2.80, 2.40).
Meadowlands, Race 4, Sovereign Kit... WON (5.80, 3.80, 2.80).

Aqueduct: Red Smith Hcp G2 $150K

King's Drama 3-5
Rousing Victory 8-1
Dreadnaught 7-1

Affirmative Action scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on King's Drama.
Collected $14.00 on the WP (3.20, 2.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-4-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-4-6.

King's Drama...Will have to contend with Certifiably Crazy early but he looks best of this season's races -- if we're willing to toss the flopperoo at Woodbine. We are.
Rochester...Old boy took the G3 Sycamore for the third time in his last race. Never know if a 9YO can hold his form -- but if he's able to this guy will be tough.
Certifiably Crazy...Ran second in this race last year. Should be able to conserve enough to have something left late.
Affirmative Action.

Calder: Jack Price Juvie $150K

Wager: $5 WP on Electrify.
Collected $44.00 on the WP (10.60, 7.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-3.
...$2 tri key Electrify over next three.
No tri offered.

Electrify...Sire Delaware Township won the 2001 Defrancis Dash over Kona Gold, Caller One and Xtra Heat. This is his first crop -- but this guy indicates they might be worth following. Undefeated in two starts and looks well spotted for stakes debut.
Cab...Big dud in stake here last time. Two good works coming into this and cutback should help.
Big Lover...Seems to be showing nice improvement through three starts.
Rehoboth.

Calder: Arthur Appleton Juvie Turf $100K

Mr Silver 2-1
Gin Rummy King 8-5
Full In 13-1

Wager: $5 WP on Belligerence.
Ran 5th at 9-2.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-5.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-6.

...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-6.

Belligerence...Improved dramatically with switch to turf. Comes into this off of two wins at the distance and over the course.
Gin Rummy King...The 96 Beyer towers over these -- but it was done on a sealed dirt track -- so some question marks remain. Also concerned about the low percentage jock.
Allsmarts...Sat off a couple of months and then fired lifetime best Beyer in return -- despite some trouble.
Full In.

Calder: Joe O'Farrell Juvie Fillies $150K

Peach Flambe 14-1
Stolen Prayer 6-5
Secret Brook 32-1

Wager: $5 WP on Running Lass.
Ran 8th at 2-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-5[entry]-6[entry]-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-5[entry]-6[entry]-7-8.

Running Lass...Done in last time by the "Bailey-factor"? -- Seems like the past few months Jerry Bailey hasn't been persevering if his mount isn't in the hunt for the win -- just our opinion. He's still a top jock and gets the job done if the mount is live coming into the lane -- but we'll look for a rebound from this one with the switch back to Cruz.
Stolen Prayer...Toss the NY stakes try and this one has a very impressive resume.
Swish...Looks like the type that will move forward in his second start.
A Sea Trippi.

Calder: John Franks Juvie Fillies Turf $100K

DH - Good Intentions 8-5
DH - Survicat 8-1
Mia's Reflection 2-1

Mia's Reflection DQ'd from 1st to 3rd... Dead-heat for win
Bond Queen scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Bond Queen.
Scratched.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 1-3-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-3-6.

Bond Queen...Stretching out after three dirt sprints. Showed good improvement start one to start two. Had trouble in latest. Sire Stormy Atlantic OK with turf runners (Icy Atlantic a good turf stakes performer). Bullet turf work for this.
Blinka's Baby...Could be the speed and might be tough to catch.
Good Intentions...Improved when moved to turf.
Mia's Reflection.

Calder: Elmer Huebeck Distaff Hcp $200K

American Miss 5-1
Special Report 5-2
Appealing Pond 6-1

Wager: $5 WP on Special Report.
Collected $11.00 on the WP (xxx, 4.40).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-6-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-6-7.

Special Report...Could be ready to pop in third start off layoff.
Tigi...Seems to have taken to Calder since moving south this summer.
Storm Forecast...Last might signal she's in top form right now.
Appealing Pond.

Calder: Jack Dudley Sprint Hcp $150K

Weigelia 9-1
Mister Fotis 12-1
Qureall 9-2

Wager: $5 WP on Apalachian Thunder.
Ran 5th at 3-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 5-6.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 3-4-5-6.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 3-4-5-6.

Apalachian Thunder...Looks like the speed of the speed in here and might be tough to catch if able to shake free.
Cin Cin...3YO is lightly raced but could be rounding into top form.
Santana Strings...Regressed some after winning the G2 Amsterdam at Saratoga. But looks to fit well here.
Qureall.

Calder: Bonnie Heath Turf Cup Hcp $150K

Revved Up 3-2
Silver Tree 1-1
Gin and Sin 16-1

Deputy Lad scratched.

Wager: $5 WP on Silver Tree.
Collected $5.50 on the WP (xxx, 2.20).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $12.00 on the ex box ($12.00/$2).
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $6.00 on the ex box.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-5.

Silver Tree...Mott turfer unlucky to have been shutout so far in 2005. Ran second in two Saratoga starts behind Artie Schiller and Leroidesanimaux respectively. Should find this bunch to his liking.
Revved Up...Sharp in two Woodbine stakes -- but cutback in distance is a concern. Will he still be sharp enough dropping back to 9F?
Deputy Lad...Spent the summer in SoCal but was racing well in Florida earlier this year.
Magic Mecke.

Calder: Carl G Rose Classic Hcp $200K

Who's Crying Now 10-1
Supervisor 16-1
Dazzling Dr Cevin 5-1

Wager: $5 WP on Bob's Proud Moment.
Ran 7th at 27-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 3-7.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-7.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-3-5-7.

Bob's Proud Moment...Looking for a little bit of an upset in a wide-open affair. This guy goes turf-to-dirt and has a good closing kick. We'll look for him to be running in the lane -- although, admittedly, low-percentage jock scares us.
Dazzling Dr Cevin...3YO has really come into his own lately. Won the off-the-turf Calder Derby last time.
Supervisor...Like top pick, should be heard from late. Won G3 stake here in latest effort.
Summer Book.

Churchill: Mrs Revere G2 $150K

My Typhoon 8-5
Isla Cozzene 5-2
Silver Cup 3-1

Manila Fudge sacratched.

Wager: $5 WP on My Typhoon.
Collected $21.00 on the WP (5.40, 3.00).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Scratched.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $7.40 on the ex box ($14.80/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Collected $18.70 on the tri box ($37.40/$2).

My Typhoon...Mott filly very consistent and should appreciate return to turf. Albarado rides.
Manila Fudge...Scary speedster could prove tough to run down.
Silver Cup...Euro-import took a couple of races to get her "USA-legs" -- looks ready for a top effort.
Isla Cozzene.

Hollywood: Bien Bien $70K

Chips Are Down 1-1
Yes He's a Pistol 3-1
Becrux 7-5

Giant Shift scratched.

Wager: $15 quinella top two, sub next if scratch.
Ran 1-3.

Becrux...Might be the class of this short field.
Chips Are Down...Third start off layoff and working well.
Giant Shift.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed in event of a scratch.
Scratches listed in our results reflect only horses that were part of our selections, not necessarily all the horses that were scratched. Check official results for complete information.
