Head-to-Head

Our Head-to-Head feature pits Coast-to-Coast's Seth Merrow against DRF's Weekend Warrior, Mike Watchmaker. Whenever the two columns make selections in the same race we'll tally the results for each.

11/05/2005

Coast-to-coast and Weekend Warrior overlapped in two races this week and managed to grab a winner in one of them. In the one race where our opinions diverged we both ran out. So we picked up a winner to help the percentages in that category -- but the price was nothing to write home about...

This week's matchup races Seth Merrow/Equidaily.com's Coast-to-coast Mike Watchmaker/DRF's Weekend Warrior
Aqueduct: Turnback the Alarm WON ($3.20, 2.30, 2.10) WON ($3.20, 2.30, 2.10)

(Head-to-Head results above are only for those races which were common to both columns. Weekend Warrior might have tabbed other races not reflected in the results above.)

Best Bets

Churchill, Race 3, Trieste's Song... 6th at 3-1.
Churchill, Race 8, Performing Diva... 6th at 3-1
Santa Anita/Oak Tree, Race 7, Seapoint... 3rd at 8-5 (xxx, xxx, 2.80).
Meadowlands, Race 6, Affirmative Action... 4th at 2-1.

Aqueduct: Turnback the Alarm G3 $100K

Indian Vale 3-5
Taittinger Rose 3-1
Asti 5-2

Shebelongstoyou scratched.

Wager: $5 W on Indian Vale.
Collected $8.00 on the W ($3.20).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Collected $7.00 on the ex box ($7.00/$2).
...$2 tri key Indian Vale over next three.
Collected $11.40 on the tri key ($11.40/$2).

Indian Vale...First three races seemed to indicate she's something special. Can control this on the front-end. Let's toss the last and look for a rebound.
Taittinger Rose...Lightly raced in 2005 but typically in the hunt.
Shebelongstoyou...3YO seems to have gotten the hang of the game since springtime.
Asti.

Aqueduct: Long Island Hcp G2 $150K

Olaya 7-2
Spotlight 4-1
Kate Winslet 11-1

Wager: $5 WP on Latice.
Ran 5th at 4-5.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 1-5.
...$2 tri key Latice over next three.
Ran 5/1-2-6.
...$1 tri key Olaya over other three.
Ran 1-2-5-6.

Latice...Impressed by her US debut at Saratoga. Looks to be set-up well coming out of just-miss effort at Woodbine.
Olaya...Euro-import has won at the distance and trainer is good with these US debuters.
A Lulu Ofa Menifee...Probably better than 2005 record indicates.
Spotlight.

Churchill: Pocahontas G3 $100K

French Park 2-1
Trippi Street 7-2
Coolwind 11-1

Wager: $5 WP on Performing Diva.
Ran 6th at 3-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 6-10.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $12.20 on the ex box ($24.40/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-6-10.

Performing Diva...Went well last time moving MSW to G2. Should benefit from that experience and will appreciate the cutback to one-turn.
Wild Tonight...Has shown nice improvement through three starts.
French Park...Eye-popping debut. But it was at Keeneland so we need to see another good effort somewhere else before jumping on the bandwagon totally.
Trippi Street.

Churchill: Iroquois G3 $100K

Catcominatcha 8-1
High Cotton 7-1
Mondavi 72-1

Wager: $5 WP on Testimony.
Ran 10th at 17-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 9-10.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 2-5-9-10.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 2-5-9-10.

Testimony...Stretched out last time to a big win at Belmont after two nice sprints at Saratoga. Question mark as to whether or not the big win was aided by the off track -- but we take the chance he's learned the game.
Right Place N Time...Super debut for Asmussen.
High Cotton...That stake at Keeneland looked a little flukey. Let's look for this guy to rebound to prior good form.
Flanders Fields.

Santa Anita/Oak Tree: Las Palmas Hcp G2 $150K

Mea Domina 7-2
Elusive Diva 5-2
Star Parade 7-1

Wager: $5 WP on Elusive Diva.
Collected $9.50 on the WP (xxx, 3.80).
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 2-10.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Collected $17.40 on the ex box ($34.80/$2).
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 1-2-6-10.

Elusive Diva...Looks to be set up well coming into this off of two sprints.
Bright Abundance...East coast shipper competes her on her best effort.
Mea Domina...Clearly fits here but fitness is a question mark off the layoff.
Dream's.

Meadowlands: John Henry $60K

Rumor Has It 16-1
Westmoreland Road 6-1
Publisher's Phil 13-1

Wager: $5 WP on Affirmative Action.
Ran 4th at 2-1.
...$2 exacta box top two.
Ran 4-8.
...$1 exacta box top four.
Ran 4-6-7-8.
...$1 tri box top four.
Ran 4-6-7-8.

Affirmative Action...A little curious why they went from a decent stakes try into a $35K claimer -- but Clement's Euro-import looks like a good fit here.
Ground Hero...Abbreviated schedule in 2005 -- but can't knock the results.
Victory Circle...Over-matched last time but will compete with these.
Ballonenostrikes.

If we are interested in both halves of an entry -- in event of a scratch -- it is noted that way. If only one-half of the entry is named, then we prefer that half and will move to our next pick listed in event of a scratch.
Scratches listed in our results reflect only horses that were part of our selections, not necessarily all the horses that were scratched. Check official results for complete information.
