Picks and plays for some of the day's major stakes

Yeesh. This was just one of those days that -- luckily -- sits on the far side of the bell curve. Some days play almost completely to form. Some days -- like Saturday -- chaos reigns from start to finish. Most days sit somewhere in between. But, wow, this week was on the far side.

Our wagering template really relies on hitting the gimmicks -- so if we miss one of the top two finishers in any race, we're pretty much knocked out of that race. We were swimming upstream this week:

38-1 Interpatation wins the Palm Beach at Gulfstream. Could have been played on some improving form in first two starts of the year -- but let's face it, there were better looking plays than this maiden.

53-1 Hello Jery completes the exacta at Laurel. Perhaps playable with improving form through first four starts -- but was moving from MSW to stakes company and again, others looked much better.

30-1 Miriam L wins at Fair Grounds. OK, the heavy fave got beaten -- that's what makes horse-racing, but Miriam L had finished behind four others in here in her last two races.

75-1 Gallant Secret runs second in the Bourbonette BC at Turfway. She was coming off of two thirds and a fourth at Tampa and hadn't shown a lot over off-going.

38-1 Cat Shaker scores in the Rushaway at Turfway. Proud Accolade was over-bet at 2-5, but this guy would have been hard to back with much confidence with only one lifetime win under his belt.

And so it goes... It's not unusual that we'll have some nice prices in our mix for a few races on any given week -- but it's unlikely that we can grab the brass ring in race after race on a wacky week like this. Again, it was the far side of the bell curve, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles some days.

Just have to pick ourselves up, dust off, and head into next week.
