Yesterday...

BINGO! A super day that brings back fond memories of the closing days of the 2004 meet where we turned it around nicely. It will be interesting to see if we can keep this roll going and repeat the success of last year. Remember -- it was as recently as Monday morning that our bankroll stood at $286.

We had a big day Thursday -- but boy-oh-boy could it have been bigger. In the early double one of our selections won the first and paid $20.60. In the second race we were right there with dead aim at the top of the stretch and still plugging away through the lane -- but we just couldn't get there and had to settle for second-place at 12-1. The winner of the 2nd was the 5-2 second-favorite and the double paid $80.50/$2. Our 12-1 shot was the second longest price in the field -- we didn't see the will pays for the double but we have to imagine the price would have been extremely lucrative.

In the 4th our top pick scored at 10-1, and we were disappointed -- for a couple of reasons. First, the winner, City Attraction, was making only his second lifetime start. His first start, on Aug 20, was a complete dud, finishing tenth of eleven at odds of 63-1. As such, it was a head-scratcher to watch this guy hover at 8-1/9-1 until just before post when he bumped up to 10-1. Sure, there were some subtle things to like -- otherwise we wouldn't have used him, but 10-1??? We were hoping for a significantly better price.

The second reason for disappointment in that race was the play we made below in the Race 3-4-5 P3. We used ALL to bookend around City Attraction -- only to watch our top picks in both of those races win: 7-5 Evasive and 2-1 Stolen Identity. So we could have played it cold. But there's no denying it's a much better feeling going into that last leg knowing it's a sure thing. And even though Stolen Identity got up to win the 5th, it was a four-horse battle within the last sixteenth and the horse that ran second, 10-1 Americani, would have completed a $2800+ P3 -- and that would have made the meet for the Best Bets Bankroll Challenge!
