Dark day. No racing.
Mixed Up...Having a pretty good season on the flats for Sheppard including a small stake win last time. Facile win in only try over jumps.
Irish Prince...Solid record in 2004 including two nice races right here at the Spa.
Shahrahere...Also going well this season and picks up a top jump jock.
Motel Affair/The Editor's Son.
Forest Rhythm...Put together two improving efforts earlier this season. Has been on bench a couple of months and these youngsters can often come back with some nice maturity from such a layoff.
Clear the Bases...Another one that might appreciate the brief layoff.
Ocotillo...Expect a better try with a race over the track in tow.
Shake the Dice...Don't be fooled by the 'no-name' trainer. This guy is filling in for Steve Asmussen who starts a 15-day suspension (issued out of Chicago) today. So it was Asmussen who really brought this one up to today and he's about 30% first-off the claim.
Smokieisabandit...Might sneak out there and steal this if unchallenged.
Source...Dutrow is another who is strong first-off the claim.
On the Game.
Brilliant Success...Trainer has been a little slower than usual here this year but his stats with 2YOs at this meet are too strong to ignore.
Great Dame...Makes that potent drop from MSW to mdn clm.
Missile Bay...Also drops in from MSW events and was showing some good speed in those. Dangerous.
Trickle of Gold.
Proud Accolade...Pletcher/Velazquez 2YO was just dominating when running away from twelve others in career debut.
Royal Moment...Asmussen (don't forget, the listed trainer is his fill-in during the suspension) trainee also had a solid win in first start.
Calypso Band...Look for a rebound to good form after a tough go of it in the Sanford behind Afleet alex.
Trounce...Takes a drop off a decent try at $50K and Gill/Shuman team might be shopping for another win at the meet.
Albert E...Trainer is about 20% first-off the claim and this one might hang on a little longer with a try over the track under his belt.
Harmony Hall...Probably needed last off the layoff. If that one got him some fitness he might blow these away if able to recapture form from 2003.
Torre and Zim.
Frankel entry...Looks like King's Drama might be the lone speed in here and Third Half can close if the pace scenario falls apart.
Cottage...Should be able to stalk and get a good run when they come into the lane.
Quest Star...Been facing some good ones in graded company lately. Should benefit from the class relief.
EIGHTH RACE -- Saratoga Dew $65K
Fait Accompli...The layoff here is a real concern -- but this isn't a particularly strong Saratoga stake. This gal was third in an open stake in January. Could be tough if ready.
Leedle Dee...Plenty of speed and comes out of a front-running win here on 8/12. If able to repeat that effort this filly is clearly the one to beat -- but we feel that performance might have been aided by the 'muddy' track.
Raffie's Dream...Turf-to-dirt. Looks capable of competing with this group.
Peter's Puddles...In a field with plenty of long-time maiden we'll go with the new face. Trainer can have them ready to go long first-time out.
Takeh...Toss last -- seems to prefer turf.
Cryptovinsky...Was facing open company in SoCal. Eligible to boss this NY-bred bunch.
Ninety Nine Mack.
