We started the 2004 Saratoga thoroughbred race meet with a mythical bankroll of $1000. Each day we'll use this space to record our mythical best bets and calculate the accumulated wins and losses.

Yesterday...

Most of the plays revolved around the two Sheppard Specials -- Vallonga in the 8th and Caught in the Act in the 10th, and they both were far less than special in every respect. Typically we're looking for some real value with our Sheppard Specials (like the $18+ price on Spanish Spur last Monday) but the crowd went absolutely bonkers and made Vallonga the fave on the opening flash. The filly eventually settled in as the 3-1 second choice -- but even that was kind of amazing since she hadn't run in almost two years! Ouch! Likewise our special in the 10th went off shorter than we expected. And both ran poorly under Richard Migliore.
