Today's Best Bets1-9. Uh-oh. One winner on top (8th, $9.40) but three top picks ran second. We had pretty much shed our case of seconditis which plagued us during Week One and then lessened in Week's Two and Three. We can only hope Wednesday was an aberration. Our top two reversed for the $21.40/$2 exacta in the 3rd. In a scratch-reduced field in the off-the-turf 5th our fourth pick topped our first and second choices for the $119.50/$2 tri. A nice price considering only six entered the gate -- things were juiced up when our top pick went off at 7-1... And finished second!
21,177 attended. Things were humid all day. Because of that afternoon storms were a possibility. But c'mon, now I just know this season is snake-bit weather-wise: I was walking through the backyard prior to the 7th when it started to sprinkle, I looked up and -- the sky was blue! There were no clouds over me and it was still raining! The sprinkle strengthened a little -- not enough to scare people indoors -- and continued through the running of the 7th and then the precip was over for the rest of the day.
Turf racing is still a go for today however track superintendent Jerry Porcelli stated on the morning OTB-TV program that they are under a zero tolerance condition for rain. In other words, the courses are soft and races will likely come off if it does rain today.
FIRST RACE
Miles Ahead...Scratched out of tougher race yesterday -- entrymate won -- for this spot.
Major Hero...A couple of good tries under belt this season.
Trebizond...Might wake up with the move in for a tag.
Indispensable.
SECOND RACE
Account for Me...Claimed two back. won last for $25K. Goes for $20K today.
Mount Intrepid...Looks like the one to beat -- particularly with the jock switch.
Fabulous Peak...Expect an improvement with a race over the track.

THIRD RACE
Vibrant...Drop from MSW to mdn clm is always a potent angle -- however, beware here: Filly was purchased in Feb for $250K and now runs for $50K. That raises a red flag, but if she's ready to go she's the one to beat.
Rhea of Villanova...Could come out running.
Marlindsey...Just have a feeling this filly might add some value to the gimmicks.

Be My Prince...Really stepped up and ran nicely when switched to turf. comes back from brief break and could be ready to move forward today.
Takeh...Showing good improvement in three starts.
Dixie Baghdad...Could be in the hunt if able to get in from AE list.

FIFTH RACE
Citizenship...Has been improving steadily since hitting the track late last year. Could be ready for a breakout coming in with a decent try over the track.
Mumbles...Been going well since springtime and gets top jock.
How Long...Looked good breaking maiden last time.

Ninety Nine Mack...Longtime maiden has done his best on turf and ran second last two. Nineteen times non-winner is a tough pick on top but this isn't much of a field.
Here's Ya Souvenir...Expect a good try with return to grass.
Loyal Royal...Arguably his best races have been on turf.
