2003 Racing Season

Saratoga Race Course Tuesday, September 2, 2003 The Day After Total for the meet...$301.80

We started the 2003 Saratoga thoroughbred race meet with a mythical bankroll of $1000. Each day we'll use this space to record our mythical best bets and calculate the accumulated wins and losses.

Yesterday...

Ugh. The last day was really a mess. In fact the last three or four days were nothing to get excited about.

We started the day Friday with just about $800 and had high hopes for getting the bankroll up into positive territory. We wagered with some gusto all meet long and never really dipped too far below that $800 level. We had managed to cash a little something most everyday.

But just when we needed some good cards to bet into over the last four days NYRA failed us and we really didn't see a whole lot that got our juices flowing. However, we plugged away knowing that the clock was ticking.

By Monday we sat at about $630 and dove in head first even though the wet weather washed four of the seven grass races onto the main track -- and the card as a whole was less than inspiring.

And to compound matters, things just didn't work out in any way shape or form on the day we were most heavily invested.

So we took a serious hit. And yet we still have a little nest egg for our season-ending bankroll. The final tally put us behind Sherry Ross of the NY Daily News, and perhaps one or two others -- but we managed to finish ahead of Bossert and Little of the NY Daily News and at least two or three other scribes who play the bankroll game during the meet. Not bad -- but it could have been better if only the opportunities had been there over the weekend!
