YOU ARE THERE Check out the new YOU ARE THERE feature. We bring you the action, both on-track and off, for the entire Saratoga race meet.
3-11. Got of to a nice start then nibbled for the rest of the afternoon.
Winners in the 3rd (8.40), 5th (3.70) and 9th (5.50). After a late scratch of our top pick in the 1st our other three came in -- third choice, top pick, second selection -- and completed a $44.00$2 exacta and a very nice $344.50 tri. In the 9th we ha a cold exacta ($17.40) and our fourth pick completed the tri ($76.50).
On-track, a comfortable Saturday crowd of 23,137 showed up and enjoyed another nice day. Temps were the coolest they've been all summer here and by the last race things were even a little chilly. Fans had a chance to see history as jockey John Velazquez rode four winners to break Jerry Bailey's record for wins by a jockey in a Spa season. The previous record was 55 wins, JV goes into the last two days with 59 wins.
Later on the post-race action continued, as usual, at Siro's. Spotted in the crowd there were TV racing commentator Bob Neumeier as well as NYRA VP Bill Nader. And there were plenty of folks downtown later on enjoying the Final Stretch music festival all along Broadway.
The giveaway for today is a Funny Cide T-shirt. Free with paid admissions while supplies last.
Also, the Family Fun Fest takes place in the backyard. It features a lot of entertainment for the whole family. And again tonight the Final Stretch music fest takes place on Broadway downtown from 7-11pm.
Durimente...Likes the course and has gone well twice already here this season.
Connie's Magic...Another horse-for-course having a 5-4-0-0 Spa record. Won big here last time. Moves up the ladder a little.
Brightest Ice...Might be tough if able to get to an easy lead.
Imski...Has gone well twice on the turf so far. Tough if able to get in from AE list.
Crimson...Could come out running for Clement/Padua.
Epica...From Pletcher/Velaquez. Should take to turf with Kingmambo on top.
Winlocs Glory Days.
Key Deputy...Mott trainee has been off a year since a decent debut. Picks up Bailey and looks capable if fit -- and works look like he's fit.
Lydgate...Beaten fave in first two starts. They were decent efforts and he has room to improve.
Deputy Director...Just missed last time and has top jock. Dangerous.
Saints N' Sinners.
Attainable...The win here last time might have been aided by the wet track -- but it was just too good to ignore. Can take this with a repeat.
Boston Fox...Invaded from Boston area and won here bigtime on 8/11. Will be tough if able to duplicate that effort.
Poppy's Image...Cuts back to a sprint but won when dropped into a claimer last time.
Honey Rider...Pletcher filly certainly has room to move forward in second start. On AE list.
Earned Run...Adds blinkers and Prado and returns to turf. Should go well.
Lucifer's Stone...Rice filly has been working gang-busters. Note to those outside the area -- the public partnership that owns this one has been advertising heavily around here all summer so would probably like to win with this firster.
Quilled Bid...Likes the course and the trip and won a similar event here 7/26.
Zoning...Dropped in for $35K and won here last time. Claimed from that event and moves up slightly but still looks to fit here.
Sforza...His first two US turf starts have been solid.
Speed Of Light.
Sombodyswatchnovme...Ships in from Delaware for crafty claiming trainer.
Paging...Moves down the ladder a bit after a couple of only OK efforts here.
CL Rib...Should be rolling late -- not sure this is enough ground for him though.
Hidden Ransom...Won big here in latest. Looks capable of repeat effort.
Travelator...Has yet to throw in a clunker. Should be in the hunt.
Angela's Love...Ambitiously placed last time. Should appreciate return to alw company.
Broadway Lady...Decent try two back in turf debut. Troubled trip in latest. Returns to Johnny V today.
Sounds Fishy...Looked good two and three back then stumbled last time. Should go well with clean break.
Fatat Alarab...Has some nice dirt sprints in tow and should go well if takes to the grass.
Gygistar...Loves the track and trip. Showed he's returned to fine form with comeback win here on 7/25.
Aldebaran...Will be rolling late but will it be too late?
My Cousin Matt...Expecting a good try coming off of a brief break.
Sing Me Back Home.
Gone To War...Trainer has been unusually cold this meet but expect a good showing from this one making third start off of layoff and switching to top jock.
Golden Commander...Comes in off of two solid turf efforts and should show more of the same today.
Steve's Thunder...Has potential to move forward making third start of season.
