YOU ARE THERE Check out the new YOU ARE THERE feature. We bring you the action, both on-track and off, for the entire Saratoga race meet.
0-9. Ouch! Fired our first oh-fer for the meet but as we said yesterday, "We'll be kind of surprised if this is another 'chalky' day. The card seems very competitive and wide-open throughout." That proved prophetic. Three favorites won. Most public handicappers did no better than we did, some scored a couple of winners on the afternoon. But it was tough sledding.
We had some modest luck in the gimmick department with three of our top four combining for tri's in the 2nd ($82.50/$2) and 7th ($173.00). In the 7th our second choice topped our third pick for a $70.50 exacta. And our top two flip-flopped for the modest $9.50 exacta in the 8th.
On-track, 21,557 enjoyed a beautiful afternoon weather-wise. Warm and sunny throughout the day. By evening plenty of strollers were walking along Broadway downtown as the sun set.

There's a Pick Six carryover of $53K+.
FIRST RACE
Naughty Prince...Had put together a solid jump resume prior to dull effort in latest. We'll blame that on the soft going and give him another chance.
Voss entry...Party Airs is an unknown commodity but trainer merits a look. Barrington finished a ways behind winner last time -- but not so far out of the place spot.
Neilson entry...Regal Again can contend if able to capture good form from earlier this year. River Bed should go well on firm turf.
Cherokeeinthehills.
SECOND RACE
Sejm Boogie...Moves up the ladder slightly -- but win over the strip on 8/4 is too good to ignore.
Volcanic Hill...Expecting a good showing from Delaware shipper.
Fact Not Fiction...Was ahead at the 6F mark last time and then bumped and faded. Cutback in trip should benefit therefore.
Handsome Gent.
THIRD RACE
She's Got The Beat...Bridesmaid in four straight -- but last two facing some tough customers. Has scored last three times facing alw company.
Golden Sonata...Mott/Bailey filly will be coming late.
Pocus Hocus...Might try and surprise these on the front-end.
Forest Secrets.
FOURTH RACE
Quite a list of picks here -- because our first four are on the AE list.
Pogolotti Hill...A solid seasonal debut. Then regressed a little. We're expecting a rebound.
Golden Commander...Trainer is hot at the meet and this one is coming off of a nice win here on 7/28.
Sea Cloud...Returns on just four days rest and picks up top jock.
Malagash.
Lost In The Woods.
Also, Kinjet, I'llruinya, I Wish I Slew, Oatka Justa Prince.
FIFTH RACE
Discover The Glory...Needs best effort -- but will be tough if able to give that.
Larry King...Frankel has cooled off after a good start this meet. This guy's last was best yet -- but concern that it might have been aided by wet track.
Grace Course...Expect this one to lead them as far as he can.
Dreadnaught.
SIXTH RACE
Proud Beauty...Pletcher filly gave a very solid try in '03 debut (exclude Combermere entrymate from this selection).
Trillion Wing...Improved nicely in second start to just-miss exiting maiden ranks.
Silver Clipper...Sat out a year then ran second here on 7/30. Can contend if able to show some improvement off of that effort.
Music Way.
Pay The Dancer.
SEVENTH RACE
Beebe Lake...Looked good when given a stalking trip last time. Doesn't seem as though there's much speed in here however -- so that tactic might not fall into place. We'll see.
Exchange Bay...Also showed a good strategy last time coming from behind. Might be able to duplicate that here.
Run Alexis Run...Might be ready to duplicate some of the good form from last summer.
Alleged Whisper.
Irish Glory.
EIGHTH RACE
Stoic...Solid try first time at this level on 7/30 (exclude Dr Kathy entrymate from this selection).
Amazer...Pletcher/Velasquez 2YO moved forward in second start. Needs to improve some more -- but is eligible.
Lil Fortune...Wow. Blasted $50K mdn claimers at Delaware in debut. Might be this good -- but can out-of-town bugboy score at the Spa?
Ana's Lady Bird.
NINTH RACE
Russian Sweetiepie...Hmmm, no wins over past two seasons -- but has gone well on the track and looks to fit at this level.
I Met Somebody...Expect improvement with move back into claiming ranks.
Titia...Has been very consistent for Asmussen since late winter. Sure to be in the hunt if able to get a clean trip this time.
High Post.
Ms Rapunzel.
