YOU ARE THERE Check out the new YOU ARE THERE feature. We bring you the action, both on-track and off, for the entire Saratoga race meet.
5-9. A truly chalky afternoon at a chalky 2003 meet. Eight of the nine winners -- including all six in the $319.00/$2 Pick Six -- were favorites.
Winners in the 3rd (5.70), 4th (3.80), 5th (5.80), 7th (3.90), and 8th (4.20). Three other winners were our second choices. In the 2nd our second pick topped our third choice for the $41.20/$2 exacta and $26.40 quinella. Our top pick completed the $117.00 tri. We had cold exactas in both the 3rd ($15.60) and the 4th ($10.40 and quin, $6.80). Our picks also combined for all the Picks and doubles.
On-track, a crowd of 24147 turned out for a very nice day.
The Daily Racing Form is our preferred source for past performances -- however, Thursday's blackout has slowed down their publication. There was a barebones edition out in the Saratoga area, but we couldn't locate it. And -- surprisingly -- even their online edition didn't offer advanced PP's for Saturday. As such we're using a new source for our PP's and are therefore at a little bit of a disadvantage -- but we move forward regardless...
The annual Chili Cook-Off takes place in the backyard from 12-4pm.
Nurey's Thunder...Dutrow runner can make presence felt at this level if able to get in from AE list.
Zoning...Pletcher drops this one to a level where he should compete.
Severado...Hard to get too excited about a 7YO with five starts -- but that might allow them to sit comfortably and win at this level of claiming race.
Born To Pic.
On dirt: Native Rhythm, Born To Pic, Fade To blue, Garb, Contessa entry.
Fast Train...An also-ran from that Value Plus race won Friday (albeit on a drop to mdn clm). Might be shaping up as a key race.
Gethsemani...Lukas runner just missed in a good effort last time.
Charismatic Rob...Shows some nice works.
Mott entry...Balustrade preferred. Had some gate problems in debut, got away poorly and then closed. Expect improvement.
Allensky...Another that should move forward in second start.
Frost Warning...Only turf start was his best effort.
Jaming The Blues.
On dirt: Patriot Spirit, Touching Gold, Alton Bay, Allensky, Frost Warning, Cherokee Park.
Pick'em...Has gone well so far in two '03 starts. Will need to improve to take this one be has license to do it in third start of season.
Clock Stopper...Banged in a big effort last time to just miss against good Frankel runner Ghostzapper. The one to beat.
Mr Whitestone...Hasn't been wining much this year -- but is always in the hunt.
Actaeon...Dull debut effort as fave in roughly run race. Let's give him another chance with a clean run.
Army Boots...A length back of top pick. Also roughed up a bit in that heat.
Redskin Warrior...Showing some nice works for debut.
Dutrow entry...Park The Car is coming off of two nice wins and looks capable of moving up. July Child should appreciate move back into claimers.
Simon entry...Tullynally might be this good. Comes back quick off the claim.
Paris Adventure...Has gone well for a tag previously.
SEVENTH RACE - Saratoga BC
Volponi...Four starts, four seconds this year. Makes jock switch. Tries a trip he has positive experience with.
Harlan's Holiday...This guy's top performances have been at Gulfstream. Not convinced yet that he is as solid outside of sunshine state -- although he has some nice tries elsewhere. Distance is also a question mark.
Puzzlement...Will be rolling late.
Cozy Maria...Clement turfer just missed in US debut after almost a year away. Will be tough if able to show some improvement off of tightener.
Belles Lettres...Has been showing marked improvement over last few.
Bugwiser...Feel she'll make a good account of herself in third start off of layoff.
Twining And Dining.
On dirt: Unrepentant, Unbridled Valor, Positively Wild, Changing World.
NINTH RACE - The Alabama
Bird Town...Think the Test might have set her up well for this.
Spoken Fur...Undefeated in two starts since moving in with Frankel. Two G1's. Goes for $2 mil bonus today.
Island Fashion...Moves into Tagg barn off of win in Delaware Oaks.
Rosie Is A Leader...Ran well two back. Troubled trip last time. Move down the ladder should help.
A Real Gem...Drops back to level of nice win two back.
And She Hits Me...Could show some improvement in third start of year.
