YOU ARE THERE Check out the new YOU ARE THERE feature. We bring you the action, both on-track and off, for the entire Saratoga race meet.
Dark day. No racing.
Today
Early word is that the first two turf races are still ON, the nightcap is OFF. As always, check before wagering.
Today is Funny Cide Day. The Derby winner will school in the paddock at 11:30am. All fans Wednesday will receive a Funny Cide poster with paid admission while supplies last. From 12-1pm there will be an autograph session with the Funny Cide connections -- they're asking for a $5 donation to a worthy cause, the Belmont Child Care Center. And there will be a ceremony honoring Saratoga's favorite racehorse in the winner's circle following the 2nd race.
FIRST RACE
Voss entry...Franc is preferred off of four solid jump tries so far including a nice MSW win here on 7/20. And Voss is the man this year in these jump races.
Dancewel...The surrender last time is a concern -- but had been going well in prior starts.
Corruption...Always like to see a prep on the flat.
Sheppard entry.
SECOND RACE
Clever Electrician...On paper this guy look tough. Comes out of a second-place finish here last time in a similar event, and it was aways back to the third. But this one is no lock. These types can find a way to lose.
Shaky town...Was fourth behind top pick in latest and that was as fave -- over a sloppy track. We'll excuse that one as there was an excuse. A rebound to form of prior start makes him tough.
My Pal Al...Shows a couple of decent dirt tries three and four back.
Delta Sea.
THIRD RACE
Pericles...Too tough to ignore the roll Pletcher/Velasquez are on.
Exciting Metro...Four decent tries so far. Let's see if he can put it together.
Hurricane Hunter...Might go to the front and not look back.
Lissau.
FOURTH RACE
Connie's Magic...Loves the track> Just missed last time -- moved up to the win on DQ -- in a similar event.
AP Aspen...Was the winner of that event and received the DQ. Obviously can contend with a better trip.
Baby Shaq...Was the recipient of the DQ bump in that race. Should go well without problems.
Divine Hammer.
FIFTH RACE
Colonial Bay...Consistently close this year and Prado got him into the winner's circle last time. Can repeat.
Blazing Fury...A graded performer that loves the track. Off almost a year however.
Jackpot...If he can rebound back to that nice first start of the year he'll be tough.
Robbie's Rockin.
On dirt: Colonial Bay, Jackpot, Robbie's Rockin.
SIXTH RACE
Scouts Emblem...Been going very well this year -- but putting up a lot of W's. Looks capable of adding one here however.
Eavesdropper...Mott 3YO should go well in third start of season.
Hussar...Pletcher/Velasquez runner placed in a G2 last summer. But has been off a long time.
Monthir.
SEVENTH RACE
La Belle Simone...Clement filly looks primed for big effort in third US start.
Mott entry...Float and Sting preferred, but must get in from AE's.
Sunstone...Expect a good try with drop into alw ranks.
Give And Take.
Everybottiwins.
D'Ohana.
On dirt: Give And Take, Mott entry, Ellie's Quest, Bayou Mist, Lentil
EIGHTH RACE
Limehouse...Pletcher/Velasquez again. This guy has cruised through three wins, including two stakes.
Pomeroy...Biancone 2YO has two daylight wins so far.
Cuvee...beaten fave in Bashford Manor.
Lukas entry.
NINTH RACE
First You Dream...Might last a little longer in the lane with the jock switch.
Life At Sea...Speed to spare.
Emerging Spirit...Always in the hunt. Gave a very good try when moved to turf last time.
Mister Fizz.
Luz Lane.
Old Crow.
On dirt: Emerging Spirit, Life At Sea, Mister Fizz, Coleslew, True Patriot.
