3-9. Things finally cooled down a bit -- but that's to be expected. Still, 33% isn't bad.
Winners in the 3rd, 5.40; 6th, 7.80; 7th, 4.40). Also, in the third it was top pick over fourth choice over second for the $98.50/$2 tri. Over third pick topped our second choice in the 5th for a nice $212.50 exacta. We had the $19.20 exacta cold in the 7th. And our third pick bested our top pick in the 8th for a $23.20 gimmick. And most of the "Picks" could have been grabbed as one of our top three plays scored in each of the last seven races.
On-track, nice weather brought out a crowd of 14,727.
Very competitive card this afternoon. Tough picking but there should be some nice prices in this bunch.
Fighting Star...Might not have liked the soft going last time. Reunited with jock that got him home third in G1 event two back at Churchill.
Voss entry...Barrington tossed in an inexplicable clunker two back but that was bookended by two nice wins. Major Hero Should appreciate return to alw company.
I'm Hit Sarge...Has gone nicely in three tries against lesser this year. Comes into this off of a decent flat try.
K Neilson entry.
Beau Tie...Came around nicely in third start of season last time. We'll hope he can maintain that form.
Reynolds/Iwinski entry...Harley Quinn should certainly go well in here for a tag -- but oh-fer on the track is a concern. Country Only is also a question mark on the track but has done OK at the trip.
American Century...Comes into this looking pretty solid. Shot a couple of 100+ Beyers this winter, then came of bench to win nicely in latest. Would rate higher except he hasn't hit the board in two tries at the distance -- including a real clunker here in '01.
He Did It His Way.
Marylebone...Not thrilled with the post but the trainer is off to a good start after burning up Belmont -- so we'll tab on strength of connections.
World Event...Experience counts and this gal just missed in a good-looking debut.
For My Wife...Probably will need to move forward a little off of prior tries -- but still has room to improve.
Go Deputy...Closed a ton to finish second in good-looking debut. Must get in from AE list.
Vanity Affair...Third start of '03 after a couple of OK 'warm-ups'. Adds blinkers.
Taconic...Bond/Prado turfer should appreciate cutback in distance.
Romans entry...Patriot's Song Really like the setup of two one-turn starts and then stretching in third try of season. Roses In May lightly raced and improving.
A Great Team...Superbly bred McGaughey 3YO seems to be getting the hang of it.
San Telmo...Always gives a good effort.
Best To Be King...Faltered badly as favorite in Tremont. But debut was too good to ignore. Mr Bailey sticks and we'll hope this one can regain that good form.
Stored...Good-looking debut at Delaware and these youngsters are always eligible to improve in second start.
Royal Force...Ditto with this one.
Andover...Solid in two tries so far and picks up Mr Bailey on the turf.
Blond Dancer...Expecting a good effort from this one making third start of '03 and picking up more experienced jock.
Miss Fortunate...Mott filly looked good in turf debut last time.
Fast Cookie...Mott runner has shown some liking for track and trip. Tepid call in tough race.
Country Romance...Lukas/Overbrook speedster brings in three-race streak.
Dynamite Miss...Put in some good tries here last year and has won nicely at this trip before.
Twining And Dining...Will be rolling late and should appreciate move in for a tag.
Radiantly...Faltered in stake two back but other turf tries have been good.
Constancy...Mott turfer just missed when in for tag last time.
