Plenty of people strolling along Broadway Teusday evening as temps were comfortable and the weather was dry. That was in stark contrast to Monday night when severe thunderstorms rocked the upstate area.
The BIG DANCE returns to the Spa. It's Day One of the 36-day meet which promises to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.
Rain rolled through the area Monday night and predictions are for more perhaps a little more wet weather Wednesday.
Early reports say off-turf for Wednesday and so we've handicapped appropriately below -- for dirt.
One Last Chance...Nice looking debut -- even though hampered by some troubles. Could be tough with that experience under belt.
Seeking The Glory...AP Indy colt from a stakes winning mare has the right to be any kind.
Chute The Breeze...Like what the sire has done so far from a limited sample.
Blue Boat...Has looked like a monster in two starts for Frankel. Might take these all the way.
Seattle Fitz...Strong run in US debut for red-hot trainer -- then flatered last time after an early bump. Expect a return to form of that start two back.
Inamorato...Godolphin 3YO could be a good one and might like the two turns of Saratoga.
Carrier...DW Lukas 3YO had a decent dirt start two back and that experience might prove useful here.
Shire...Gotta feeling this Claiborne/Mott colt will do OK on the dirt if he's left in the field.
Frost Warning...Improved when switched to turf -- but that was also his second start. So improvement might have been the seasoning as much as the surface. If so he should go well today.
Shake You Up...Half-bro to Shake You Down, the very good sprinter of this spring-summer. Working well and trainer good with youngsters.
Actaeon...Pletcher is also good in all 2YO categories and this one is showing some good stuff in the am.
Gethsemani...Experience counts and this Lukas colt might improve nicely in second start.
Our Tune...Woke up last time to win an off-turf maiden event. Goes against winners today -- but no gang-busters. Might repeat if able to make an early lead.
Raffie's Storm...Enter main track only. Won off-turf race two back.
Cecilia's Girl...Did OK last time on dirt.
Fisher Pond...MTO entrant from Pletcher might take these gate-to-wire.
No Parole...Should be about ready to show best stuff after three tries so far in '03.
Jeb's Wild...Sprint to route angle has proven successful for trainer in past.
Speed Hunter...Won off a layoff here last year. 2-2 over the strip.
Ceviche...Has been going well since moved in Lake's care.
Lebontempsroulet...On a three-race streak. A repeat of last would probably be enough to take this -- but four in a row is a tall order for this kind.
Evening Attire...MTO entrant won't face the likes of Mineshaft here. Has done well over the course in past.
Millenium Dragon...Turfer went OK two back on dirt. Trainer is usually well-meant when his turf runners stay in off-turf races.
Request For Parole...Can toss in a big one when in the mood.
Ashado...Pletcher has been going well with the youngsters and this one's debut was just too good to ignore.
Be Gentle...Lukas filly is 2-2 including Churchill stake last time.
Feline Story...Nice sharp win last time in Astoria to stay undefeated in two starts.
Shamrock Blues...Hard to gauge but won for $35K last time and drops to $25K today. Tough on best -- but can throw in a clunker too.
Mild Maggie...Has been competitive over last nine.
Exotic Angel...Solid so far this year -- except for last. Would feel better if new trainer winning at better than 7%.
